    Not what this article is about but I can’t wait for China to surpass the west at high end chips and watch them cry over the natural consequences of banning export to China when they desperately need to import to be competitive.

      Same, and I think we’ll see that happen within 5 years or so. What would be really amazing is if one of the moonshot projects actually works out. For example, this looks very promising https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2095927323004206

      This could be like going from vacuum tubes to transistors. We’re at the point now where we’re reaching physical limits of what’s possible with silicon. You have to put in a phenomenal amount of effort to get ever diminishing gains at the other end. Meanwhile, even a naive version of transistors on a different substrate could afford order of magnitude in performance increase. On top of that, you’ll have tons of room for refinement for years to come. This would be another Sputnik moment for the west.
