Kind of an underwhelming upgrade
the battery optimizations look like a big deal to me, people are reporting improved battery life with the 14 beta
How much improved in SOT terms?
From a Pixel 7a user on c/googlepixel (https://lemmy.world/post/2775854):
I installed android 14 beta today and going to bed after 4 hours SOT I’ve got 50% battery left, the difference is ridiculous.
I’m right now installing the beta on my 7a to see for myself.
You can install Windows 95 or Ubuntu on your phone using an emulator app. Yet Android cannot emulate an older Android.
Interesting… well if you can get Ubuntu then there is Anbox but I guess that’s probably not the same thing?
And then also Linux must not be able to emulate it if you can’t get it to run through Ubuntu?
Unless I get an “allow App to run in Background” permission I’m not happy.
Basically an overhaul of permissions in general. This is window dressing compared to Apple’s real work to secure their platform.
Does it matter if a stingray doesn’t work to the majority of people who will never be targeted by law enforcement? No.
Does it matter that there’s basically nothing stopping your apps sucking up all your data? Yep.
When Google makes a change that makes Facebook’s share price tank I’ll be interested.
Predictive back seems cool. That’s about it
Lock screen customizations too for me but yeah that’s it
I really hope i don’t have to format data once it’s available for my phone
I just installed the beta, it doesn’t look like I lost any data and all my apps are still there.
I’m actually talking about staying decrypted, my phone hasn’t received an official update since android 12.

Probably in the early fall to keep in cycle with the next generation of pixels.
