The location of every place in Wales where sewage was spilled into rivers and oceans, usually during bad weather, is made clear in a new map. In March the figures for these overflows were released and they didn’t make for pleasant reading - nearly a million hours of spills, an increase of 68% year-on-year, and a total of 105,943 spill incidents, 95% of them “significant”.

Now, we have mapped them - so you can see exactly where in Wales sewage was spilled, and for exactly how many hours. It’s a bit more complicated than that, though, because these spills are not 100% sewage.
