JULIAN ASSANGE IS FREE
Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stanstead airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.
This is the result of a global campaign that spanned grass-roots organisers, press freedom campaigners, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations. This created the space for a long period of negotiations with the US Department of Justice, leading to a deal that has not yet been formally finalised. We will provide more information as soon as possible.
After more than five years in a 2x3 metre cell, isolated 23 hours a day, he will soon reunite with his wife Stella Assange, and their children, who have only known their father from behind bars.
WikiLeaks published groundbreaking stories of government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions. As editor-in-chief, Julian paid severely for these principles, and for the people’s right to know.
As he returns to Australia, we thank all who stood by us, fought for us, and remained utterly committed in the fight for his freedom.
Julian’s freedom is our freedom.
[More details to follow]
I’m legit crying rn.
I feel so bad that Assange has had so much of his life stolen from him at this point. I hope he can recover his health and gets to live happily and peacefully at home again with his family. It’s been so long…
Oh my god please be real, are there any articles on this yet?
Seems to be real, he took a plea and left the UK already. He had to admit guilt to sharing state secrets. Plea was about as good as he was going to get, and given existing health issues makes total sense for him to take it.
I am honestly still floored he got that much, but I am pretty stoked about it.
This is seriously the best news all year. No shame at all in taking it of course, the US forces you to confess your sins medieval-style before they’ll stop the torture.
His action has widespread attention so the Pax Americana cannot commit the typical brutality and human rights violations against him. This is unlike the people who are exposing the Indian Residential fake school death camp genocide in British diaspora that secretly continued after 1997, the recent replacement of depleted Indigenous child slaves in fake schools with intentionally displaced refugee of color, the continued land thief to create ‘natural’ park, the plagiarism of work of people of color in international development, and human trafficking under the fake cultural assimilation policy.
Yes, there are! https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/24/us/politics/assange-plea.html
Assange Agrees to Plead Guilty in Exchange for Release, Ending Standoff With U.S.
So manning got sentenced to 35 years under Obama (pardoned after 7 served also by Obama… thanks Obama…)
Assange was effectively imprisoned all this time and his official sentence is apparently going to be 5 years counting time served already so the feds get a “W” and now he can leave London finally
I wonder how much time the people on video murdering Reuters reporters got… oh, zero. The only real response from Obama’s DoD was “🤷 looks legal, bub 🤷 what can we do? 🤷” The same shit they’ve always said. Same shit they run now to cover for Israeli war crimes. They literally justified the killing of the reporters by saying they were embedded with militants… simply because the “militants” had AKs. People in a non-US country had weapons, reporters were there for whatever reason, US kills all of them, and post-death just calls them all terrorists. Reuters took it too. They ate shit and never openly called out the DoD.
Guess it’s just important to remember with all the recent insanity from Israel and US protecting the IOF, this is really just the same shit they always do
Dogshit country where no good deed ever goes unpunished
Amazing news!
great news for him and his family, ridiculous plea bargain aside
