• reminds me of that thing Parenti usually throws out as an aside about how making common cause with the disenfranchised, disempowered, and materially insecure peoples is characterized by the hegemon as some kind of sneaky, duplicitous move to seize power… though how one actually receives power in this way is never explained.

Liberals never explain it because they believe the world operates on magical thinking. If enough people combine their imaginations, the thing they want happens. That’s how they conceive of reality

Ironic, considering libs call other people orks: in warhammer 40k this is literally how orkish psionics operate. They can wish things into existence if enough of them believes something hard enough.

For them that largely is how it works, they’re able to will a lot of bourgeois policy into action because it didn’t challenge power. When they see an actual challenge to power, they are incapable of approaching it from any other perspective because their brains have been rotted by their ideology.

Hamas has lobbyists and high ranking politicians spread throughout the world. There are right wing fanatical religious movements in different countries supporting Hamas. Hamas has broad support in the West and in Western media. Meanwhile, the Global South broadly condemns Hamas and supports…

I mean on the other hand, I know plenty of people who are either Egyptian, Jordanian, Lebanese, Persian (everyone I know who is from Iran magically becomes “Persian” once they immigrate for some reason… probably all that “Death to the west” that I see on the news) and for some reason I never have to ask where they stand on the issue. Muslims scare white people more than Jews, brown Muslims even more. Give them a beard and a kaftan and you watch Karen clutch her pearls. At least the Jewish people get Jon Stewart and Mel Brooks.

The vast majority of people dont see this as a vast complicated 70 year ongoing geopolitical hot potato, they just pick their side and defend it.

Your first part of the comment reminded me of my coworker. She is proudly iranian (though i think that is more because she is from the Azeri part and is therefore not really persian) while also being a monarchist who want the Shah to come back and constantly defends the Shah as somehow more civilized than the current Islamic Republic.
