I’m excited to see a bunch of 16 year old with no relationship experience tell everyone the obvious choice is to break up
Lol maybe in a smaller, more moderated space we can see a difference?
I’ll indeed try to come up with some strategies to reduce the number of uninspired “just break up” comments. Though our goal isn’t silencing users, even if naive or young. We shall see how it goes :D
I know communities like these can get a little silly and they’re easy to make fun of, but they really do serve an important purpose, IMO. The number of people who have to be told that it’s not normal for your partner to scream at you, or that no, your partner actually isn’t a great person if they do fill in the blank is really sad to me. And for every person asking, there are certainly more lurking that can also benefit from reading that. They might have to wade through a bunch of nonsense and AI-generated stories to find it, but I’m glad there’s a place for it.
I deeply agree. Thanks for your words and support.
That’s not fair.
Wait, my bad, I was thinking about something else.
That’s definitely fair, and accurate.
I’m 34 have a shitload of experience and I also advise that most of the times.
Now I can eat popcorn while watching some couple’s life burn to the ground around them, but without the icky feeling (from supporting Spez’s empire, that is).
Great! Though I do admit on the previous relationship_advice sub the only thing I did was to try and guess if something was a legit question for advice or just a creative / drama writing exercise …
may this be better than the one on reddit, where half the posts are “you gotta break up now”!
I think there might be a selection bias effect with the topic. Most people in happy relationships aren’t going online to seek how to help others have happy relationships. Instead, it’s people with poor relationships or a history of poor relationships googling the term and joining the group and giving their assessment and advice.
Also “they missed a call? They’re definitely cheating!” Then “you fucked up because you didn’t trust your partner, doesn’t matter if your friend sent you elaborately forged evidence!”
Pretty low bar 😂
Lovely icon
Thanks a lot! It’s simple but I think it represents the community well. I have zero drawing or editing skills, so each new icon I make means wasting some time trying to learn how to use GIMP correctly hahaha. But I think the icons are important, they create a consistent visual identity to Lemmy.
Working with pictures can be very satisfying. I’m not good with icons or logos, but I can appreciate when they’re so spot on.
Can’t wait for the juicy posts
Cool! Subscribed!
All posts must be a request for advice.
Hope this rule gets applied to posts that pretend to be looking for advice but are really just seeking validation. People complain about the advice always being to break up, but IMO this is the bigger issue which keeps me away from all of the advice subreddits.
Okay silly question incoming: how do I subscribe (or whatever the term is 😅)
Not silly at all! It’s a new platform, everybody is learning. I see you’re from the Lemmy.blahaj.zone instance, so the easiest way to join our community would be acessing Lemmy from your instance like you already did, then navigate to this reply I just wrote to you and click here to get to the community and then click Subscribe on the sidebar. If you are using the Android app Jerboa please note there’s currently a bug that prevents this link from working, so I recommend using a browser on your phone or PC just for joining. After that, you can use the community as normal!
As you’re on the lemmy.blahaj.zone instance, go to https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/relationship_advice@lemmy.world and hit the Subscribe button.
The format is generally yourinstance/c/communityname@communityinstance
