The U.S. Federal Trade Commission will file an injunction blocking Microsoft Corp’s (MSFT.O) acquisition of Activision Blizzard (ATVI.O), a source familiar with a planned court filing said on Monday.
Fucking GOOD. Why so many companies are being allowed to so blantantly attempt to become monopolies is beyond me.
I don’t understand why there seems to be so much widespread support amongst people of different ideological backgrounds for this deal. The more companies are allowed to do this, the worse it will be for consumers.
People aren’t thinking about it like that unfortunately. They’re going into it thinking that this’ll mean CoD on Xbox Game Pass, improvements to shooters that MS produces, and so on. They’re not considering the long term impact on us, the consumer
Well remember what happen when IRS went after the Microsoft for stashing tax payer money away. They lobbied US government to reduce resources of IRS so they don’t have power to keep pursuing the matter anymore.
Contrary to popular belief US is not land of the free, it is land of the corporate ownership. Getting angry at Microsoft is like getting angry at the King. What are you gonna do about it, it is the KING.
I can’t see this regularly bullshit nothing more than illusion to fool Public opinion and not a single cent more. If FTC actually be a hassle, they will be reminded who their owners are.
“King eh? Well I didn’t vote for ya!” “You don’t vote for the king! Shut up stupid peasant!” “Help! Help! I’m being oppressed!”
I don’t know. I agree with some of your points but on the other hand, no one is forcing me to use Internet Explorer right now, and that was not always the case.
So the deal’s deadline is July 18th and Microsoft is posturing to go through with the deal and finalize “at any time”, because they don’t want the deal to expire and have to go through the process of making a new one. The reason for this injunction is because the trial to settle the FTC’s concerns begins August 2nd, and they don’t want Microsoft to claim victory just yet.
The FTC is using the imminent nature of the deal, combined with recent sales success of Diablo 4 as reason to delay a judgment. Microsoft would prefer to get this done before having to go to trial.
It doesn’t mean any decisions have been made about the deal itself yet. The FTC may still allow the merger to happen, though likely with concessions in favor of preserving competition.
I don’t understand how any possible concessions could “preserve competiton” in a case like this. We’re watching Microsoft try to build more monopolistic power by literally buying a competitor.
I still believe this will go through despite the FTC and the UK’s efforts to block it.
