here is a list of Japan Train Class:

Local (普通/各駅停車/各停) stop at every station

Rapid(快速） skip a few stops

Area Rapid(区間快速) skip a few stops in a particular area

through Rapid(直通快速) Rapid train but operated to another line, can be operated by different companies

Commuter Rapid (通勤快速) Rapid train operated during rush hours

Special Rapid (特快速) used by Shintetsu Arima Line, a rapid train operated during rush hours

Yamatoji Rapid (大和路快速) used by JR West, operated in Osaka with a few JR lines

Miyakoji Rapid (みやこ路快速) used by JR West Nara line.

Takarazuka Rapid (丹波路快速) used by JR West, operated in Fukuchiyama Line and Tōkaidō Main Line

Kishuji Rapid (紀州路快速) used by JR West, operated in Osaka Loop line

Kanku Rapid (関空快速) used by JR West, operated in Osaka Loop line, go to Kansai Airport

Airport Rapid (空港快速) Rapid train go to/from airport, used by Tokyo Monorail
