They are rewriting so much stuff. Why the media player? Are VLC and mpv not enough? Text editor, file manager, screenshot tool, terminal, … couldn’t that all gone into other stuff?
As much as I’m excited for COSMIC I’m a bit bothered by this too.
Year alright… As a pop os kde user it’s frustrating as hell. They’re holding up the entire 24.04 release in alpha for a desktop I don’t want and will not use.
What keeps you on Pop_OS if you’re using KDE?
It’s a pain to switch?
If you’re not planning to use COSMIC once it releases you might consider switching distros in the long run to something else. Maybe Kubuntu?
Otherwise it seems like the big effort to deliver COSMIC should be a one-time thing and I assume Pop will resume a more normal release schedule once that move is done, so you shouldn’t have to wait so long the next time around.
I mean - yeah I could switch. But it’s a pain. I’m not a kiddie distro-hopper.
It’s not such a pain to switch with separate home and root, it would take an hour for me
What’s the catch?
I just don’t feel like it? Do I need to have a robust and well-thought out reason?
Don’t they normally delay against Ubuntu by a year…?
