Well, we should consider promoting our Lemmy European community more. I am trying to share here anything I find useful/inspiring

Am maltese. The country is going to shit due to overdevelopment. Everything is being slowly torn down, and replaced by concrete blocks of flats. Hell, I’ve been living at my current place for 7 years now. In the short ~100m street I live in there has literally always been some construction project or other. heck, a new one just started a couple of weeks ago. 7 years…

The point is that for the overwhelming majority of people, they simply don’t have a roof to put them on. And if you do, it’s only a matter of time before yet another permit is blindly granted for a neighbor to build an additional storey or two, putting your panels in shade, with no recourse or compensation.

speak of the fucking devil. I just received an email. Yet another new permit has been issued for exactly what I just described, just two doors down from me.

The social network factor was a culture shock for me. You literally contact businesses and even government officials over Facebook/Facebook Messenger. Businesses don’t have their own websites, just Facebook profiles. If you’re looking for a job or an apartment, the best place to start is usually Facebook. I had to resuscitate my decades-long dead Facebook account to find my footing in Malta, and it never stopped feeling dystopian.
