Comparing two gaming handheld devices that run on Linux: the Steam Deck and the ASUS ROG Ally. The author uses various benchmarks to measure the performance, power consumption, and display quality of both devices. The main difference between the two devices is the processor: the Steam Deck has a custom AMD “Van Gogh” APU with four Zen 2 cores and 8 CUs of RDNA3 graphics, while the ROG Ally has a new AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme SoC with eight Zen 4 cores and 12 CUs of RDNA3 graphics. The ROG Ally also has a higher resolution and refresh rate display, but it is slightly more expensive than the Steam Deck.
