The commoner knows religion to be true.

The wise know religion to be false.

The rulers know religion to be useful.

    -(paraphrased)Edward Gibbons (I’m pretty sure)

I can’t help but comment that if the word “To” was moved to the second line, it would show ABC across the lines and just be more satisfying lol

My friend joined a very cult-like Christian church.

One of those ones where they pray and people start shaking and shit.

I went to his wedding, it was fucking surreal haha

But every single one of their members had serious problems with alcohol or drugs. Including my friend.

Now it’s great they help their members quit but they very clearly take advantage of people at rock bottom to convert them.

This community has some real “i was religious till yesterday and i hate it” vibes. Whats up with that?

It’s almost like some people need help processing the trauma they endured in their religions… I know. Shocking right?

Totally understandable. I was there too. Just seems a bit off putting for me nowadays after many years of atheism. Feels like any community that is full of new believers, whether it is veganism, leftism or anything else. The level of animosity is through the charts.

Living in the USA is often a constant, daily struggle to deflect and divert religious individuals… And I don’t even live in a super religious area.

Damn man that sounds super shitty. I live with the privilige of eastern gemany where being atheist is the norm and even in the rest of germany you would not get pestered with religion. I get the animosity because your religious people are largely nutjobs that push for frightening stuff (from what i see on social media and the news) so sorry for that. I hope it gets better for you guys.

Or maybe it’s the frustration with religious bullshit impacting our lives? Most of us just want to live, but the religious bullshit keeps fucking that up.

As someone not living in america i probably face not enough bullshit to feel this mich agression towards religious people. The nicest person at my job is super religious, but luckely not in a preachy way. I get the feels though, coming from a strict christian house. Sucked major balls and made my sister an agressiv atheist too. Just wanted to test the waters and seems i was right.
