Thanks to Duolingo I can enjoy this meme! Muchas gracias!
Estoy es muy triste, porque perdí mi racha de 473 días.
Yes, thanks to Duo, this is exactly my level of Spanish :p
¡Felicidades a nosotros!
Me gustan los memes españoles.
Also just so you guys know meme is pronounced may-may in spanish. Makes me laugh every time I hear one of my friends say it in spanish.
I’ve never thought about that, but that’s hilarious.

It’s more like meh-meh, our vowels don’t have additional sounds.
For more accurate pronunciation you can think of Spanish vowels as if they had an ‘h’ at the end.
Ah
Eh
Ih
Oh
Uh
Adding the H to some of these letters wouldn’t give the right sound for native english speakers. I would transcribe these vowels using american english like so:
A = ah : rhymes with ma
E = ay : rhymes with hey
I = ee : rhymes with tree
O = oh : rhymes with blow
U = oo : rhymes with shoe
It looks like there might be a slight misunderstanding, “e” is pronounced as the e in “metal”, “test”, “wrench”.
We do not use a different sound for it, and it does not rhyme with hey at all :D

I think the only one that could be tricky would be the “uh” since it could be confused with the interjection “uhhh”, but as you mentioned, it is indeed pronounced as “oo”.
Perhaps it’s just dialectal differences. I live in colombia and what I hear daily is an e sound that rhymes with hey, hay, or may.
First time I hear about that! Haven’t talked with my Colombian friends in a while, but regions are indeed getting stronger differences every day although it is mostly with the marked s, c, g, h, j, r sounds, rarely with the vowels.
Anecdotally, I’ve never met a spanish speaker from any country (Colombia included) that pronounces the “e” as “ey” though, so it’s interesting to think how that can happen. For context, tv and people in general use that pronunciation to mock (in a satirical way) English speakers trying to speak Spanish.

Why do y’all anglophones enjoy making language more complicated than it needs to be? Does it bring you joy to provoke suffering to the world?
Nah, it just distracts from the self-loathing.
Nooooooooo!
It’s okay… I can take it… How do they pronounce gif?
They pronounce it like: “gif”
I heard a dude pronounce meme ‘mee mee’ once like 10 years ago, and that created a core memory for me for some reason.
I see my pal, Jon. Olé! Mother’s realistic Toyota
lmao
Norwegian:
“Det er ikke mye, men jeg liker en kuk i ræva”
Loistavaa! Puuttuu vain Hankkija-lippis
Now you’re bringing Japanese trucks into this conversation?
Thx Spanish classes
I don’t speak portuguese but I understood it
I think it’s Spanish.
I don’t speak spanish too, it might be spanish
Sorry I can’t read swedish, what does your comment say?
Мислиш ја знам бе брат 😂.
Haha yes, me too comrade
Hey something is wrong with my Lemmy. Seems to be stuck in Spanish or something. How do change it back?
Li siento. No hablo Inglés.
One of my favorite stories to tell related to this was when I went to a stadium to do some work and needed a bathroom.
I noticed some people cleaning that looked Spanish, but I don’t like to assume people don’t know English so I started with “Do you happen to know where the bathroom is?” So they replied “lo siento, no hablo Ingles.” Having taken Spanish in highschool I remember like 8 words and switched “donde estas el bano?” And they replied “no Ingles, no Ingles.”
…but… I’m speaking your language now… Lol
Spectat sicut Anglis. Possum legere sine ullo negotio.
I like that my native language is so present in the Fediverse 🥲
Same here. I’ve been trying to immerse myself in Spanish. My grandparents were from there and they were always disappointed that none of their grandchildren became fluent.
Now I go back once per year as a sort of pilgrimage. Hopefully I’ll be able to hold conversations soon.
It’s difficult, but I never want to be that American who refuses to make even a token effort to learn the basics of the language when they’re travelling abroad.
thanks to knowing portuguese i can understand this spanish meme
Thanks to watching La Casa de Papel with original sound and English subtitles, I can understand this meme.

I feel so cultured.
I understood because I’m portuguese. Idk about the rest
It ain’t much, but its honest work
Si, entiendo!
I speak Portuguese, so at least this ain’t that hard to understand, nice meme 👍
I literally dont understand and I wish I could block memes that aren’t in English. They can’t even be easily translated because text in image.
It’s just the same meme you have always seen, saying the same thing it always says. If you haven’t seen the meme before, you won’t know what it says. Everyone is just having fun “translating” what they have already memorized (meme-orized?).
Except it isn’t the same meme? It’s a completely different picture.
Sync supports native OCR extraction and translation of images as well as fully translating posts and comments. I don’t even recall it having that feature in Reddit, but it’s pretty awesome to have now.
Any iOS users know of the best alternative for translating Lemmy?
Ponte las pilas papito
This is the first time I see a non-English meme outside of non-English communities. And you can easily block the latter. And I wouldn’t really count this as non-English, since the main text is English and the meme text is a known meme already.
I already have to go through and block all the non-English memes communities.
I’m not sure why everyone is pretending that it’s somehow extremely obvious what the meme is supposed to be.
Nobody is pretending. People either already know the original meme and use it to deduce the translation, or they have the minimal understanding of Spanish required to read the text.
I’m assuming by “original meme” you’re referring to a meme with a completely different image that you wouldn’t know what it is unless you read Spanish.
A lot of Lemmy communities require alt-text to display any text in the image, along with a descriptor for the visually-impared users of Lemmy.
Not this post though, apparently.
