This is the first qualitive study to give voice to people whose dogs have been harmed by 1080.

A Deakin University team - comprised of Dr Adam Cardilini, Dr Alexa Hayley and Associate Professor Bill Borrie - interviewed seven people about their dogs’ deaths from 1080 poisoning to understand its impact on dog guardians and their relationships with other animals.

The participants shared uniquely personal stories, yet strikingly all identified the experience of watching their dog die from 1080 poisoning as ‘horrendous’ and ‘horrifying’.

There is no specific antidote for 1080 poisoning, however veterinary treatments can assist in your dog’s survival.

I’m in an area where they often have 1080 FOX POISON signs up warning everyone that they are baiting etc.

I often see dog owners with their dogs off the leash. I always tell them there are baits out. They just don’t seem to care… smh…

We don’t deserve dogs. Dogs don’t deserve us … 😔

There is the counter studies that says almost all the dogs killed are dingos as well.

It’s shit all round and mostly only benefits animal agriculture.

Just had a quick read of the dingo wikipedia article because I was under the impression that we didn’t have many pure dingos left. Apparently we do.

        only benefits animal agriculture.

That is entirely the point. I’m not sure what you thought it was? Dingos aren’t an endangered species and are even a declared pest in some areas.

In 2018, the IUCN regarded the dingo as a feral dog and discarded it from the Red List

Even conservationist regard it as a feral species.

Because I’m an environmentalist and animal agriculture isn’t really part of a healthy ecosystem?

          Dingos aren’t an endangered species

They are killed out of areas which makes them limited (or maybe endangered) to that area. Baiting reduces their numbers. That’s the point, is it not?

Even conservationist regard it as a feral species.

Who? To me, if dingos are 3000+ years on the mainland then they are less feral than sheep and other animal agriculture.

To the people downvoting, please state your position so I can modify my posting if it’s required.

I’m figuratively vacuuming the internet to find stuff to post but I don’t have to post everything if it bothers you.

You really shouldn’t be expecting 100% upvotes for anything you post, and if you do, I’d stop posting now, because it’s completely unrealistic.

I’m not. I’m asking for some debate so I can focus on what people want. The downvote means fuck all in that regard.

Thanks for the hot take though!

I don’t mind it but I’m vehemently anti-downvote and want to know more. To me, downvoting is the laziest and worst part about social media since it got away from its original use of removing off-topic posts and comments.

And no worries. It’s starting to feel like a full time job. If I could get every different website into one RSS reader, it might not be too bad and I could pick and choose articles rather than searching. Losing access to a computer and doing it all on the phone sucks.

Some sites dont have feeds. I suppose I could work on the conversion but … you know … Ive got other things to do.

I’m hoping one day people will start adding better or more important links to the list and then I can start focusing on reducing the overall numbers of sites. Plus, having other people posting will break it up.

I agree, downvoting doesn’t really serve a purpose other to give lazy people a way to avoid discussion and debate. The older forums I frequented always had a much higher quality of poster, because people were actually there to talk to each other instead of mindlessly doom scroll and disagree with one button press.

Yes, I don’t remember upvotes or downvotes in forums and there was no trouble figuring out what was worth reading or not. I can see the use of it for sorting algorithms but I don’t even think it needs to be visible for that.

I don’t downvote or use the car horn on the road. There is something wrong with me obviously.

We are the same then, I don’t use the horn either. Only for warning people about an impending crash and even then I’m usually too preoccupied with not crashing lol

If you watch Daahcams Aus, I think a lot of crashes happen because people are preoccupied in attempting to use the horn rather than not crashing!

It’s funny you say that, but a lot of times it’s after the idiot has already gone that I actually think about hitting the horn. And then it’s “Well, there’s no point now and it’s only gonna be distracting to other drivers who aren’t asshats…”

No antidote? Sheesh maybe they should use a different poison then. Also keeping your dog on a lead is a great idea, especially in baiting areas.

I can’t believe that 1080 isn’t banned. It’s an absolutely terrible poison and a horrible way for anything to die. It keeps killing, even animals that eat an animal killed by 1080 die.

I grew up on a property where surrounding farms deployed 1080, dad held one of our dogs in his arms as it writhed in pain and died from 1080 poisoning. Horrific experience, absolute cunts.

Indescriminant killing that has an unknown impact on the ecosystem.

It should be illegal to bait like that.

What animals do they hope to kill?

1080 is used heaps in NZ but exclusively in wilderness areas and by the government. Mostly to get rid of possums and stoats eating out flightless birds.

It’s very controversial here too, but I don’t think it actually goes wrong very often, except when people ignore super obvious warnings.

Non native pest species such as feral dogs/cats, foxes, wild pigs, and rabbits.
