Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Thursday took aim at former President Trump for pushing Republican lawmakers to oppose a border deal so that he could use the issue to campaign against President Biden in the 2024 presidential election.

Romney told CNN’s Manu Raju he thought it was “really appalling” that Trump would try to prevent progress on addressing the surge in migration at the southern border.

“I think the border is a very important issue for Donald Trump,” Romney said. “And the fact that he would communicate to Republican senators and congresspeople that he doesn’t want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame Biden for it is really appalling.”

A horse’s ass is as a horse’s ass does. Trump’s party isn’t even conservative - should be called the obstinate petty opportunistic hyena children party.

They should be called conservative because the image of conservatism should not be washed free of his touch.

Conservative means appealing to traditional values, power structures, and hierarchies. It means resisting change even if doing so rejects progress, reduces liberties, or is bad for a just and equitable society. There are different words for the people who prioritize all those things over maintaining the status quo: progressive, liberal, and socialist. The conservatives assure us they are none of these things.

In some way, be glad for Trump. He’s showing conservatism in its truest form. Social progress comes knocking and he’s here to donkey kick it back into the street. Campaigners for justice ask for aid and he slaps away their hands. Victims cry out that their rights are being violated and he laughs, scoffs, and admits it’s him doing it. That’s always been what conservatism is about.

But you should also call them evil fascist tinpot monsters.

God, only Donald Trump could make Mitt fucking Romney look like a half decent person.

He isn’t, but when you put him next to Trump he almost looks like less of a jackass.

It just shows that the Republicans can’t get shit done even when it’s shit that they claim they want to do. They are incompetent at best and a blight on our society at worst.

I believe the word is “childish”

There is nothing appalling about Trump’s banal behavior.

Anyone shocked or dismayed by Trump hasn’t been paying attention.

Same junk, different year. Remember Carter vs. Reagan and the delay of release of the Iranian hostages to discredit Carter? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Romney told CNN’s Manu Raju he thought it was “really appalling” that Trump would try to prevent progress on addressing the surge in migration at the southern border.

Romney’s remarks come after weeks of negotiations on a potential legislative package that addresses border security and provides funding for Ukraine and other allies.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his allies have warned that Republicans are unlikely to get a similar deal at any other moment, even if Trump wins reelection.

But Trump’s influence looms large over the party, especially among House conservatives, and the prospects for getting the deal through Congress with sufficient GOP support looks increasingly unlikely.

A source told The Hill on Wednesday that Senate Republicans who support the bill think the concessions extracted from Democrats would be “huge wins,” but that it’s becoming clear Trump opposes the package, which could prevent its passage in the GOP-controlled House.

“The Trump people want to kill it and run on the issue,” the Senate source familiar with internal GOP talks told The Hill Wednesday.

The original article contains 384 words, the summary contains 175 words. Saved 54%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Are you confusing Romney with almost every other Republican senator? No other Republicans senator that I’m aware of has said that they would vote for Biden over Trump

Hes a festering pile of shit that has ruined hundreds of thousands of lives with the vulture capital tactics of Bain capitol, but hes also the only senator to ever vote for impeached of someone in his own party in US history.

That person is the same person hes critical of now. In this matter, and maybe only it, his actions have matched his words.

If Trump was the only thing wrong with the party, this would be a good point. But he’s not exactly fronting resistance against the rest of the fascist element consuming his party, is he?

Romney only did it for the clout. He knew there wouldn’t be enough votes for the impeachment.
