So interesting that this is like a global conversation. Trans people have existed, gender affirming care has been possible for 100+ years, but even the pretty right wing authoritarian Russia only banned it after it became an issue in the US, which only really happened after Obergefell in 2015 ended the gay marriage debate in the US.

I’m open to other ideas for why this became an issue. Not sure the 2018 changes to the ISD would be classified as cause or effect of the US debate.

It became a thing because right wingers need someone to blame. Conservatism only works when there’s an “other” group to blame for all your problems. It’s been the Jews, BIPOC, gay people, and now it’s trans people.

Left or right, we all need a group to blame to keep fighting each other. For the left it’s the far right, for the right it’s the far left - in reality most people sit much closer to the centre than the extreme.

This move to highlight (and aggressively publicise) an anti-Trans agenda is purely to garner more support from conservative parties in the EU & US who are gaining popularity.

The difference between the far left and far right is that one is in power and is causing active physical harm to people and the other is the far left.

The right uses minority groups as scapegoats. The left calls them out. These two things are not equivalent and fence sitters in the so called center just enable the far right people in power to continue to cause harm

I would argue that neither the far left nor far right are in power in the US.

              Then you’d be an idiot.

Idk what else to say here, but the far right are in power. They’re pushing immigrant kids looking for a better life into dangerous rivers, they’re destroying the lives of trans people for daring to exist, they’re forcing CSA victims to give birth to SA babies, and numerous other horrific things.

They’re here and they’re in power. Pretending they’re not just makes you ignorant.

Hell, one of the far right groups that’s taking over school boards quoted fucking Hitler in their newsletter recently.

Are we talking federally here or a particular state?

Yeah, they blame the right instead of Jews, Muslims, gays, trans people, and whoever else is this week’s enemy.

Way to entirely miss the point!

To spell it out plainly, one group are people trying to live and breath. The other group is attacking those people for the crime of trying to live and breath.

Which of these sounds like an actual problem?

Trying to live and breath and also forcing other sides to do the same way of live

That is how to spell the situation

Who tried to convince you to be gay?

If you think it’s a choice, well lol, that’s a sign of repression.

No, the left does not call for conservatives to lose all health care and to be imprisoned. They do not actively pass laws in socialist countries to take the rights away from conservatives.

You are confusing political ideology with gender.
