Of the many trades Brian MacLellan has pulled off as Capitals GM, few might be more consequential than the deal that pried T.J. Oshie away from the St. Louis Blues.
Oshie: I was told there was a trade in the works with Pittsburgh at the draft, and that it was almost a done deal.
Thank god that Pittsburgh deal didn’t come through.
I remember the night he got traded to Washington. It felt like we’d got something of a steal. Brouwer had been a good player on that team, and I was sad to see him go but Oshie was a definite step up in terms of talent and ability.
He’s been one of my favourite players on the team since. Helped us win a cup, broke Colin Millers nose in the process and then had the nerve to make us all cry in the post-game.
