So a quick internet search returns this gem and I don’t think it’s related to Lemmy. Any place selling merch? Would be a nice way to spread the word and ideally if any profits go to the devs/instances that would be great

::edit:: damn how is this decisive? I thought you all were good consumeristic capitalists. I’ll just build my own then

Lemmy Kilmister was a real person with a legacy of his own that deserves better than to be a funny gimmicky sticker to promote a social media platform.

I don’t think OP is asking for merch of that Lemmy. The platform Lemmy has a mascot, just like Reddit. They are not the same thing. I understand people not knowing who Mr Kilmster but doesn’t everyone here know who the mascot is? With that said I wouldn’t mind some stickers or something.

Maybe instance owners/maintainers can fire up an Etsy shop or something similar to sell stickers and 3D prints relating to whatever instance they run. I’d be okay with something like that. As long as they don’t go full “creator warehouse” where the instance becomes secondary to making sales.

There’s a lot of downvotes here which are valid, but I personally wouldn’t be opposed to paying a few bucks to the devs making Lemmy for a sticker to put on my laptop.

I suppose I would just want to see Lemmy’s principles set in legally binding stone before I would want to give them cash.

Edit: lemmy quickly add that I’m obviously no expert in any of this and these are just casual musings not clear directions haha

If you want to support Lemmy and have the means, best thing to do is to just throw your instance admins a few bucks a month to help cover costs.

So should this been done in fiat or crypto? Fiat is nice for buying groceries but crypto seems nice to save in

Don’t know if I’m being whooshed here, but definitely fiat if possible since that’s what all their expenses are paid in.

Crypto is a really high risk investment, and would not recommend it for your savings.

You sure about that? I’ve been reading through this reddit thread from 2021 saying SHIB is going to moon

I’m not ready to promote Lemmy while it’s so full of propaganda from the CCP and Kremlin.

Welcome to the Internet. There’s Western propaganda here, too. We got all kinds.

Lemmy isn’t Reddit. It’s not owned by one entity. You’re not in a bubble that a corporation is going to keep you safe in. Anybody anywhere can create a Lemmy instance. They may be Chinese, they may be European, they may be Russian, it doesn’t matter. What matters is using your critical thinking to sort the wheat from the chaff. Join and federate with those you think are good and block those you think are bad.

Practice critical thinking and encourage your friends and family to do the same when they’re looking at information online. There’s free courses out there that can help with that kind of thing if you’re unsure.

But really, that’s your only defense because every company wants your attention, every government wants you on their side, and everyone is trying to manipulate you with propaganda somehow. Lemmy is no better or worse than Reddit, Facebook, or Twitter in that regard. That’s just the Internet.
