Yeah, after they changed it, a big part of the game felt hollow. Granted, I think the latest terrain generation in modern versions has brought things back in its own way.
I honestly didn’t notice it when they removed the old terrain. But now that I’ve seen it again, I miss it. I remember playing pocket edition in the old days with the crazy cliffs and overhangs. It was better that way.

Oh shit, there’s apparently a mod that actually brings the old generation back to newer versions.
It’s better now especially after 1.18, but beta 1.8 really was a bit of a downgrade even though the idea was there
