GPS mapping in the English countryside

I’m looking for the best apps to map out and find routes along public footpaths and bridleways in the English countryside. Would also be great to be able to use the app offline in the likely event of not having cell reception. Any suggestions?

Os maps is by far the best - but it is around £25 per year. Well worth it, in my opinion
