Dunno if am on the wrong instance or what ever (freemedia or something) but there’s very little content to scroll through. Do I need to ditch this and start again or is this pretty much standard?
Sort by “ALL” and “new” and discover new content and communities.
Also it’s a good thing: if there is no more content to browse, just leave Lemmy and enjoy doing other things :)
Keep hunting for more communities you like - the more you sub to, especially from communities your instance doesn’t know about - you can tell this because of how long it takes to load when entering a url in the search bar.
Also change your browsing settings - you have all, subscribed and local. There’s also all the different sort options. I frequently switch between all of them as they all show something different. - I tend not to keep it on the default for too long, my default is subscribed with hot, but I do like the “new comments” option for sorting a lot, but try all of them.
All is all the communities your instance knows about - i.e all the communities your fellow instance members have subbed to.
Subscribed is all the communities you are subbed to
Local is all the communities in your local instance.
Thank you for the link, I submitted my sub here :)
Sort by new & use the all tab
I’m new here and I’m finding plenty of content. As mentioned you should subscribe to communities to get stuff coming in. Start at your instance’s home page by selecting the instance link top left of the screen.
Most instances default to “local” which is typically limited in content. Under your personal settings you can set the default mode. Set it to subscribed once you’ve joined a good number of communities and you’ll see plenty when you open your instance. You can set it to “all”, but you’ll get a lot of stuff where you may have no interest.
Also instances can block other instances (defederate them). At the bottom of any page you’ll see an “Instances” link. Opening that you can see what instances are blocked. If there’s a lot of them I’d find a better instance. The one I’m using has zero blocked instances. Since you can block any community yourself there’s no need for someone to make that decision for you.
