No billionaire shenanigans to get in the way of having a truly open-sourced phone.

I didn’t know that and then it would make me happy to know that Lemmy is beating Reddit at something, but I still think we’re far away from having open source phones we could use every day in every situation.

Lemmy definitely beats reddit at several things: it is more left, more queer, more nerdy, and even more obsessed with reddit.

I was the idiot that made that happen. (◕‿◕) r/piracy entirely migrated off of Reddit, and instead of failing with an Aether migration, it was a success with Lemmy.

              No, piracy.

Well, maybe privacy too lol, because I ran r/privatelife to counter the Reddit privacy cabal nonsense, and as soon as I announced a full migration to and primary platform being Lemmy, r/privacy became completely shit, and r/PrivacyGuides was abandoned by mods/admins for lemmy.one PG instance.

I also helped make c/datahoarder atleast an official alternative for r/datahoarder community.

The crazy thing is, I left Reddit because I thought I’d miss Boost for Reddit too much after the APIcalypse and now that we have Boost for Lemmy I’ve already became too used to Voyager to care lol

Yes but jerboa looks absolutely similar to boost tho as its based on boost maybe they should try jerboa which is foss if they like boost ui.

Yeah clearly I had noticed that you’re not really allowed to be in favor of everything left (which is really different in every country) or queer.

I’m not in favor if homophobia or racism, but I’d also want everyone to be able to reasonably express an opinion without being completely destroyed…

Edit: I wanted to say not allowed to not be in favor…

That’s certainly true, there is a definite mob mentality surrounding certain topics.

However, I had reasonable success having actual discourse on controversial topics by presenting proper arguments, sticking strictly with a respectful and calm tone, and of course having some scientific links to reference for certain positions.

Yeah me too but sometimes I’m scared of not being able to say anything against the general opinion on Lemmy.

Especially about LGBT topics where I can feel like it’s clearly not welcome even if you’re just expressing yourself calmly and in a peaceful way while trying to understand everyone’s opinion.

They work for people whose priority is freedom and that are GNU/Linux experts. So I don’t think it’s productive to make general statements like that. If there is something that sucks (like battery life), you should say what it is exactly.

That’s great! It’s still a bit disappointing that so many people decided to stay on Reddit, though. They made a big protest just for everything to go back to normal.

That said, it does concern me when I recognize troll accounts posting dumb shit. Of course, I imagine it’d be easy for such a thing to be done in tandem across the whole of social media. Still troubling in our humble corner of the internet.

Well there’s ways to fight against them.

      Check their pfp.

      Check account age

Request for a baby/sapling icon beside their name on Lemmy as a feature or as an extension.

To be fair, Reddit makes it infuriating to browse Reddit on mobile using anything but their app, and a Linux phone isn’t going to have the app. Lemmy is an easy solution to that problem, and it’s FOSS.

If is the only reason I use lemmy. Although accessing it is nearly not as easy as typing a reddit url, I just bookmarked it. It would be great to access Lemmy in a newsletter or even a usenet fashion.
