    Misleading title, the article says that they can’t rule out Putin wanting him dead, this is probably not the circumstances or time in which Putin wanted him dead

    For sure!

    They just left him in a position where he was likely to die soon.

    I’m not sure that’s really better.

    Quite frankly it’s really the same, you can just wash your hands of it more.

    It’s like convincing someone to drive the wrong way down a one way road…. I didn’t explicitly say “I want you to get hurt” but I also know exactly what’s going to happen eventually.

    It’s both conceivable that he simply died of poor health in Russia’s most brutal Gulag and that it’s unlikely Putin had him killed while the US and Russia were actively discussing trading him in a prisoner exchange. This is what US intelligence is basing their assessment on.

    It’s plausible.
