The fact that Google pushes LLM hallucinations to the top of results shows not only Google’s hostility towards the open web, but also how little they believe in their core product.

Now random bot spam ranks higher than their knowledge graph results (which are quite good and the only thing I miss with other search engines) and the results surfaced by their own ranking algos.

If they were smart about using LLMs, they’d have added UI to “summarize this result” or allow you to ask questions about a result, but instead they just let an LLM repackage reddit shitposts without a clear way of verifying why the top result says what it does.

when your main business model is directing people to sites that show them ads delivered through your services but there’s a new buzzword so you scrap all of that in favor of an unknowable black box that tells people to kill themselves so you put your best people on the problem so that you can continue losing ad views without controversy big-cool

Pichai has also said that Google’s brought the cost of delivering AI answers down by 80 percent over that same time,

huh I wonder why AI is seemingly getting worse rather than better

Hard to work this one out

Well, that’s fine enough. Now all that Google has to do is scramble to manually remove itself from existence and then I’ll finally like it.
