I thought I’d create a post where we can discuss our theories! Here’s mine…
I think when she met with the law firm to convince them to send Janette the cease and desist letter she also got advice on how to shut down her rapidly growing snark page. She knows that the two are interconnected and Janette is getting most of her information from Reddit snarkers/former “fans”. This TERRIFIES her as she knows the truth will eventually come out.
I don’t think Knix or SI had anything to do with it, nor do I think Reddit cares about a nobody from Canada. I think she either 1. Reported based on a (likely exaggerated) violation that she knew Reddit would take seriously or 2. Had her cronies overwhelm the reporting system in a short amount of time. I think the latter is more likely, or at least in combination with 1.
I also don’t think the fact that Reddit is rapidly removing similar subs is related. I think they have tagged keywords that lead to subs automatically being removed, or can somehow see when former sub members congregate elsewhere (even completely private subs are being removed). For this reason I think we need to be careful when commenting about TBP on other influencer snark subs.
Thoughts? I probably didn’t share anything new here but ranged to get it out! Regardless of what happens, SNL will not win as the cat is already out of the bag and it’s the only reason she’s doubling down so hard.
I also think she’s enjoyed the opticals of “oh, she’s so powerful and totally shut down Reddit” when she 100% didn’t just fire off an email. It’s fuelling her smugness. I think your theory is pretty dead-on.
Agreed. She’s shown us she’s just not that smart and I don’t think the people around her are either.
I agree with the theory that it was reported for violations and her friends reported it also.
I’m also really sus about the dude here on Lenny who flagged us immediately as soon as our group appeared. I think there’s a mole among us. Maybe a lurker. Idanno.
Not sure how I feel about brands being involved. I’d like to believe free speech still exists but you never know.
The new sub that was shut down within hours broke a Reddit rule so that’s that. But the original ban, I tend to agree with you.
I’m so pissed about the whole thing.
I’m also really sus about the dude here on Lenny who flagged us immediately as soon as our group appeared. I think there’s a mole among us. Maybe a lurker. Idanno.
If I may, Lemmy tends to be pretty quiet (the site is much smaller than Reddit, 50k active users monthly total), so that’s why new communities with activity such as yours tend to be spotted quite fast
Thanks for that insight. Appreciate it :)
Thank you for welcoming us thus far. :)

let me be a devil advocate, as someone that’s here since a year ago
lemmy is small, too small, we had trolls attacking us since the start, DDos attacks, even fucking CP material, we have a lot of problematic instances full of trolls too(that lemmy.ca is disconnected thanksfully) so yeah, we are afraid of a bunch of people coming suddenly and making problems, maybe a bit to much afraid, but lemmy.ca admins aren’t going to suddenly delete you all, at least i never heard of something like that happening, so just keep it civil, i’m not an admin btw, and welcome!
but lemmy.ca admins aren’t going to suddenly delete you all, at least i never heard of something like that happening
The lemmy.ca confirmed already that the community was okay (as long as they respected the instances rules, of course): https://lemmy.ca/comment/9620650
Thanks for the welcome!
Hi, I’m the one who made the post in the main community about you guys. Just so you’re aware, lemmy.ca is a small instance which is part of the larger (but still small) Lemmy network.
Every post you make goes to the Local feed (like r/all but just lemmy.ca) and that is how I noticed you. Everyone on .ca is seeing every one of your posts assuming they scroll Local, and some of your posts are even on All (all of Lemmy), just a few pages down.
So no, there’s no conspiracy or anyone spying on you.
Mmmkay. Thanks. I still think it’s odd that you labeled us as a group who “harasses” an influencer
Well, y’all are here for a specific reason. Reddit banned your subreddit. But the raison d’être for Lemmy isn’t really to be a refuge for banned subreddits. Surely you can imagine what a toxic place that’d be? The people that were here already, were here because they chose to be. Because we prefer it over Reddit.
It isn’t necessarily a problem - this platform makes it quite easy to block what you don’t want to see, and its decentralised nature inherently affords freedom to discuss anything. It’s just odd as far as Lemmy communities go. I have no idea who TBP is, I just found this post because I browse ‘all’. You might be welcomed more if there was some sort of pinned post explaining who this person is and basic reasons why they deserve a snark community, so the rest of us aren’t missing the context required to participate.
I think there is info about the group. Maybe it’s sidebar instead of pinned.
There is just as much whining and negativity on lemmy as there is anywhere. And actually most people have been very cool to the group and I know we appreciate it. But to immediately flag it as harassment? How was that even known? It wasn’t mentioned at that early point? I’m not gonna beat a dead horse.
TBP is an influencer who propagates harmful content and the Reddit group was the main source for a journalist who is working on a dort of expose of her. We aren’t just a bunch of cunty whiners. We feel strongly about her dishonesty and want her held accountable. That’s really all.
It’s fine. I’m fine. Everything is fine.
There is just as much whining and negativity on lemmy as there is anywhere.
Very true
And actually most people have been very cool to the group and I know we appreciate it.
We try to be welcoming too. But as always, you’ll have people who categorize others very fast.
Understandable I suppose
I guess it’s more that this community is very outside of the usual communities on the platform, some people might not know about this phenomenon. I’m pretty sure the vast majority of Lemmy users do not have Instagram or Tiktok accounts.
To be honest, it’s refreshing to have your community, thank you for that.
“Journalist” lmfao. Get a grip. She’s a lifestyle reporter at best. Jan’s greatest grift is convincing a bunch of Redditors she’s a “investigative journalist”.
This is actually a fantastic point and I think getting a summary up is a good idea
Your POV makes sense - you don’t want someone moving into the neighbourhood and causing trouble. We’re a nice group of people who have a common goal. We keep things civil.
I got most of the info form the pinned post and the sidebar, but I guess now the pinned post if quite long.
Also, the lemmy.ca admins keep an eye on this community, so it should be fine
You post pictures of her she obviously doesn’t want online and every post is something negative about her. I’m just calling them as I see them.
With all due respect, the influencer posts photos into the public realm and we are reposting them without any alteration and making no claims that we are sourcing them from anywhere other than her Instagram. If anything, this benefits SNL because she makes money off the views.
We are a group of concerned consumers who are having public discourse over an internet influencer who is scamming her followers by posting filtered photos and by denying her obvious physical enhancements such as lip fillers and passing it off as natural and unfiltered. She also sells products on her platform that she does not disclose are sponsored content and that she makes kickbacks from the sales. In Canada, this is illegal under the Competition Act. She has also been caught plagiarizing BIPOC creator and has never addressed this, nor apologized for it, and she certainly has not compensated the BIPOC creators foe the “borrowed” content, either. She also exploits her 3 yr old for content, which is extremely concerning because the child cannot legally give consent for their image and likeness to be used for commercial gain. She also posts so much private information about her children that we know where they work, live, go to school and take part in their hobbies. This is extremely concerning from a safety perspective.
So before reporting this group, maybe have a conversation with us first. The gross majority of us are sane, rational and well-educated humans who want to hold this influencer (and others like her) accountable for their actions. We are frustrated because attempts to have these conversations in public forums have been shut down and we have been silenced for inane reasons, yet no one is taking the issues we bring up, seriously.
Well put
Incorrect. The pictures we post are pictures SHE posted. Pictures that use skinny filters which she denies using. We have never harassed her. No one is saying mean things to her. We are talking to each other about her hypocrisy.
I have been following the community for a few days and this is indeed pictures she posted herself.
Thanks for having our backs, Blaze. This comment sounds so much like the ones posted by this Infliencers’ friends it’s eeie. Her SO is the IT realm so my spidey senses are tingling
You’re straight up lying. What do you think people are hiding in the bushes outside her house and following her around the city to take pictures? Everything comes from her own social media posts. Nice try though 👌
Removed by mod

Do you have any example of what you stated? Also, how come that your account is 12 minutes old?
Probably a new acct because they were banned yesterday.
Ah, might be. I see in the modlog that somebody was already banned yesterday: https://lemmy.ca/modlog/694808
I loved that the snark came up #2 in Google search when anyone searched her. Our snark was everywhere in searches on her, no matter the wording. I think this is why she worked so hard to take it down.
I think you’re right. Hopefully we can grow this one so the same thing happens.

I think your tinfoil hat works pretty well. I think it’s her, a team of lawyers (and boy do I hope they made her pay out the nose for advice), and all her little cheerleaders who successfully silenced 6,000 people….likely the majority being women….likely lots of minorities in there….and her privilege continues to grow. It makes me really sad that people preach all these so called “positive” movements when in reality it is a mean girl popularity contest. I need the silenced to win every now and then…like at least a little.
You’re right that the vast majority of sub members were probably women who were blocked or otherwise made to feel unwelcome by her, whether it was for a good reason or not (I myself was blocked for liking a comment saying she looked different on her IG…that’s it). Has she ever considered that her actions drive people further away and make us feel even more justified in our dislike of her? Nice people simply don’t have thousands of people snarking on them.
I think it’s definitely possible! I’m not fully sure.
Personally, I do find the timing a bit suspicious. This happened right after several posts that also mentioned Knix being complicit over the weekend and also within a day of a post showing a bunch of negative Glassdoor reviews. I don’t know if knix had actual involvement here.
I also think it’s possible that we just received an influx of reports and Reddit canned us as a result. However, I also really don’t believe we were actually in violation of reddit TOS. So I hope the mods are able to have luck winning an appeal.
Queen Panties has some skeletons in the closet. I’m sure of it and she had a hand in this - even if it was just advice
Fair enough! Maybe Joanna and SNL joined forces? SNL probably clued her in that less than flattering things were being shared about her too (rightfully).
Agreed that I don’t think the sub was in violation of anything. The mods at minimum should have received a warning.
Also just noticed your username lol I love it 😂
I love it too! Is very empowering
Hahaha thank you! 😂
I love all the theories and I just want to point out they didn’t have to convince a lawyer to send a cease and desist letter. They get paid to do whatever the client directs them to do. They would advise but didn’t need convincing.
On the sub take down I agree it was probably a concerted effort of reporting based on the change in Reddit rules and I see the Magician’s ladylike hands behind it with help from the Neigjbour. The plan was hatched over a game of Catan one night while chewing some edibles, quaffing some craft beer and swilling flavoured, sparkling water.
True, it was a figure of speech really! I noticed something else I want to edit but don’t know how. Oh well lol.
On the website, the three vertical dots on the right, then the pencil
On apps it depends on the app
I get that it’s a figure of speech - I don’t know how to edit either!

Don’t forget the Diet Coke!
Dirty Diet Coke ;)
LOTS of it 😬😬😬😂
I am really new to this whole topic, but thank you for posting your theory here.
Haha. I hope I posted this on the actual snark page! If not I’ll remove it. Still getting used to this platform 🙃
You did post it on the correct place 😄
Thank you for showing an interest and following along!
Anyone got a TLDR about this community. You guys popped up and it sounds like fun juicy drama 🤔
I just started a Q&A thread (I’m newish too). It seemed like a better solution as there’s a LOT to sift through and summarize and didn’t want to put that labor on one person.
Very skimming the surface tldr (again, I’m new to this too): the purpose of the snark is to discuss the lies, fraudulent behavior of a Body positivity influencer who’s used filters/body tune (but denies it), stolen the work of bipoc women and been protected from criticism by sponsors/members of the media. Also exploits her kids for content. TIL pics of her and her kids have shown up on porn sites and apparently she’s well aware that her content is enjoyed by ”unintended” demographics. Ew.
Thank you for doing this and I love the username!
Of course!! And thanks 😉
Look at the pinned post, explanations are there somewhere
My tin foil hat is telling me that she did all of this because she’s going to come out with a big sob story about her body dysmorphia and come clean about all the filters. And removing the snark page is part of her plan to garner sympathy from all of her followers and have no where for them to go look up all the evidence herself. I think she’s going to “come clean” but really downplay the extent of it all.
Themselves not herself. It’s been a long day 🤣
Ok so a month or so there was a post made about copyright infringement and the person more or less said enjoy your group while it lasts. Because photos were posted of her and the photos technically belong to her is it possible she claimed “copywriter” infringement (the posters words not mine). Anyone else remember this?
No!! That’s a hot take!
The Reddit reason was harassment I believe.
You’re right, found a screenshot from when it was banned saying this.
Words like harassment and bullying aren’t being used properly anymore. People are using them to silence critics and it’s wrong. SNL has made herself a public figure and, as such, has to expect to be critiqued. Can a movie studio cry harassment and bullying every time a bad review is published. No. Can an actor have articles pulled because they don’t like what the journalist has written. No. Can an artist stop the art critics. No. Can a sports figure stop the broadcasters and sports writers commenting on their play. No. These influencers believe they are above scrutiny. Why? What makes them so special?
Being a critic is a career FFS. Everyone has to answer to someone and Influencers answer to their followers. Being able to block out critical comments has made them believe they don’t have to accept or listen to anything they don’t like.
I really don’t understand how the sun was “harassing” anyone. Talking about someone isn’t harassment. 🙄
I don’t understand this as she posted the photos and it was well known they were hers (her name was usually visible)? I guess maybe the ones users made could have been in violation but I’m not sure - SO many subs on Reddit should be shut down if that is the case. Regardless, mods should have been given a warning and chance to rectify the situation. This seems to be the more common process from what I’ve heard.
So I did a bit of reading and my understanding is the copyright holder can complain if they want them removed but it’s a process. Other users are saying harassment - which is entirely possible. I just don’t understand why other snarks can stay up when they have similar comments.
This is very interesting
I’m going with the lawyer theory and mass reporting. I think when Reddit started being brought up more and more on IG people started reporting? I like to know what’s up with the down voting here though. Is it the same handful of people who are feeling the need?
Hey, welcome to Lemmy, please enjoy your stay.
You may find you or users here in general get downvoted more often in the comments than over in Reddit. We don’t have any vote fuzzing algorithms, and some client interfaces by default don’t hide scores below a threshold which can cause bandwagoning. Also, many people have strong convictions/opinions over your average internet user, which is kinda the reason why we’re here to begin with (and you may be as well). Comment karma means nothing here, just take it in stride.
You don’t have to agree with everybody. All I ask is you that you help make this a place that is fun and interesting to discuss with people who have the some of the same and some different ideas than you, and so please report trolls, spammers and intentional flamebait. Thanks.
I’m really enjoying the random platform tips that keep getting left here. It’s helping me adapt more quickly. Thank you!
There’s immediately 3 down votes every new thread. I’m gonna guess they are 1. Sarah 2. Alicia and 3. the neighbor lol
lol, you’re probably right! They can’t stay away.
One of the more regular lemmy users commented above that our posts are showing up on the home feed so maybe that’s why.
Downvotes can be seen by the site admins. Feel free to ping @mp3@lemmy.ca if you think you are being brigaded
All three are from longtime users, nothing suspicious.
It’s honestly really cool that y’all can see who they are!
Thanks
It was definitely the mass reporting. The original Toronto Snark page got banned for a massive amount of Copyright reports. I think they (they being the group of 4 that is the main focus) all banded together to mass report and then the page was gone. If there was a huge influx of harassment reports on the papaya page they probably just decided to ban it, not investigation or warnings. It’s like the Reddit loophole you can use to get rid of pages that you don’t like.
Edit to add: It is weird though because brigading of any kind is against Reddit’s terms and they were definitely brigading.
That’s what I was kind of getting at - the lawyers birdie consulted with may have known this and told her to mass report the sub to get it taken down.
There were definitely some posts and users that actually did, or encouraged others to spy and report on her in real life. I’m pretty sure Reddit doesn’t want groups of people organizing to harass anyone on their site, and that is likely what got things shut down. IMO anyway
Hey Shane, listen, when your wife proclaims to be a public figure, asking if anyone is heading to her public event doesn’t really qualify as “spying” - in a public place at a public event that she’s hosting or a part of, that’s like taking “in the wild” photos of celebrities. But thanks for cherry picking comments to get free speech shut down in Canada. Super proud of your fupa flapping wife, are ya?
I feel like mods usually removed those quickly but maybe missed some.
We are talking about someone who constantly shares where she is and where she is going to be. She has shared enough information that people can find her exact address ffs. I mean she can’t possibly be too concerned. I did see a video posted from a public event at a mall that people are free to go to 🤷♀️
