Add in: I start the first chapter and my ADHD kicks in and I find myself distracted by even the tiniest of things which causes me to set down the book and forget about it for a month. I must start over now because I’ve forgotten what I read so far.
I find there’s also a factor of available energy. What I notice often happens is that browsing stuff like social media requires less mental effort than reading. So, you kind of just do it mindlessly when you’re bored, but then you end up regretting not having spent the time doing something you would’ve found more meaningful instead.
