I think what they mean by power is prominence. Outside of their association with her there is little the DSA could cite to the layperson to attest to their relevance. I respect them for what they did sticking by their principles, but this will materially make DSA a more niche, underfunded and fringe organization than it was already, though it was already flopping due to mismanagement.
There was one berating the OOP about how, now that they’ve cut ties with her, the DSA has less power. Like how could they be so stupid as to do that.

If your power is soley because you support someone, you don’t have power over them. They have power over you.
