I should have just quit reddit without looking for alternatives but here we are

With reddit shutting down I imagined all the books I was finally going to read, that attic was getting organized, and I was going to start a new hobby…and here I am.

The trouble with reading books is it generally requires a lot of concentration to follow the plot… And I’m mostly trying to relax and usually watch or listen to something in the background while browsing social media, so while I do read a lot of text on reddit/lemmy, those two activities aren’t easily switchable for me.

I was going to play some video games yesterday but instead watched subs shut down all day while exploring lemmy. I need help.

yeah i told myself I’m gonna get off social media and here i am…

if its any consolation, the relatively low volume helps limit my engagement here. I refresh the page, recognise most of the posts, and then realise i need to get off social media.

Well from what I’m seeing as long as we don’t turn it into reddit we can enjoy a much healthier one, like working out vs doing meth.

Well I did both weed and working out and I can’t say weed is necessarily healthy. I’m such much healthier working out and I used to be a constant daily stoner for 13 years lol. For me at least the experience is closer to a workout than doing any kind of drug as I’m actually socializing and interacting instead of doomscrolling. The lemmy communities have been chiller than a stoner on the beach lol!

ah, fair. I get your point - I still feel like Lemmy draws me in when I could be doing things in real life, and that will only get worse as communities grow and get more active. It’s definitely a more positive place though.

Same here but I am not complaining. My semester is ending tomorrow so I have plenty of free time
