    What is needed is an open, standardized hardware platform. You should be about to flash on the IoT OS of your choice that will be kept up to date.

      That’s one, but there are lots of random ARM devices. Many Linux. But there is no chance of updating them. There are ESP devices you don’t stand much chance of doing much with as well.
