Howdy everyone, hope everyone had a good week. I have been playing XCOM2 again and Civ IV.

It’s so good. The Chinese audio is really well done too, as can be expected from the studio. If you read the og it’s a real trip. So many callbacks and references.

I played last year after a pretty big gap (not 15 years, but close) and honestly it does not hit the same at all. Was thankful, it was pretty easy to put down compared to Vanilla and Burning Crusade. Just seems so streamlined now, I feel like I’m on a conveyor belt of various line fills up.

never got wow’s appeal. i think being too socially anxious to queue for a dungeon didn’t help me at all. farthest i got a character was lvl 40 in warmane but by then i could clearly tell my gear was shit and my build was piss and i couldn’t do fart at my level.

the game has so many systems and such shit wikis compared to other mmos and the tutorials are never geared towards newcomers because it’s wow everyone must’ve played it.

i wish i had a newcomer’s handbook. not necessarily the fastest or the best way to get to max level but detailing what you need to do in order to have the best experience.

Been picking at Wolfstride and Unicorn Overlord here and there. Haven’t been into a huge video game mood lately. I did pick up Chorus for $5, so I might give that a try soonish

Started Black Myth Wukong on PC and might end up putting it on the shelf. Having stuttery audio issues and it takes away a lot from the game play experience. The first time I started playing it was present from the start. I updated my graphics drivers and got through most of the opening sequence fine, but then got hit with the same issue again. Going to try a couple more troubleshooting steps and if those don’t work I may have to just leave it for now until there’s a patch for the issue.

If it comes to that I may just play Atomic Heart, which has been on my backlog for a while now. Then there’s FFXVI, which is releasing on PC soon, so that might be the other alternative.

Other games I’ve been playing: AoEIV, EA FC24, World of Warships

I’m having a nice time playing the hexbear succession dwarffort. I’m into summer and I already have like 1600 words written, so I’m probably going to have to go back and edit the narration down. It’s nice to jump into a functioning fortress and just get to focus on more specific goals. Right now I’m dealing with the frustration of doing multi-level chambers and getting the dwarves to know how to carve it out. Hoping to get the year finished quickly to hand it over again, but I might want to do a couple few illustrations, so that might delay things.

after 2 years of abstaining or so, i finally caved in and played a AAA game. it’s farcry 6 and so far it’s been really good actually. it’s just mindless fun to shoot people and try to sneak only to be revealed and go nuts. it has a ton of content too.

also still playing hexcraft. the server has lost its new server enthusiasm but most people will still login occasionally to complete their builds.

Got a little too into Kingdom: New Lands. Praxis stuff slowed down a bit so I finally have a day with no obligations. Nothing wrong with doing nothing all day, but I finally have time to play my banjo or build Malifaux.

Normal fighting games, feel like im hitting a wall where i need to fix like 5+ things about my gameplay before im a meaningful challenge to the good players at the local. Im confident I can beat like half the people who show up, but the good players feel like theyre just playing a different game. I’ll probably work on hit confirms next.

Cancelling my ff14 sub while school is on

Playing child of light. This game is a turn based rpg with the twist if having turns being time based. Interesting concept, serviceable story, it’s just has weird limitations. Only 2 party members are out at a time and theres no way to pre configure which 2 start and in what order, meaning swapping ppl in and buffing turn 1 can be awkward. It also makes aoe buffs worthless since usually ill want to switch the buffer out once the buff is in play. Too many enemies are resistant to physical damage for how many of my characters have no offensive magic whatsoever. The gem system is kind of annoying with how often i have to swap them out to keep elemental type advantages so damage on my physical attackers doesnt crater.

Probably worth finishing, probably wont replay. 6/10

Finished unlocking everything in the new Risk of Rain 2 DLC now that they’ve patched out everything being tied to FPS and the final boss being invincible. Some thoughts:

    • the new items are almost all useless and only serve to dilute the item pool, making getting a good build harder
    • the new boss is boring
    • most of the new levels being tied to fighting the new boss is lame because it means you won’t get to see them normally
    • Seeker is weird and needs more explanation of how her R works (you get a resurrection when you go from 6 stacks to 7, but not if you use it while already at 7)
    • The second secret character who is technically a spoiler

haven’t been playing any “real games” since I took a detour recently to get caught up in Genshin for the new patch that just got released. The new country got me to play again unfortunately lol. I still want to continue my Borderlands 3 playthrough and Ace Attorney trilogy soon though.

Been playing lots of stuff bc covid shinji-screm

Playing quite a bit of Spin Rhythm XD on the steam deck. It works amazingly well with the touchpads, the haptics add a lot and it feels more natural to spin the wheel that way then using the joysticks; great way to play. Very fun game, the background visuals are very neat and react to your spins. The biggest downside is that the music is very hit and miss, and that’s coming from someone who is quite immune to monstercat flavoured electronic music cringe. There’s some cool stuff in there, but then also just as many tracks with female vocals singing about how fuckable they are (thank you once again, cishet men songwriters). Thankfully you can favourite the tracks you like and filter out the rest, but I don’t believe it has a custom song mapping community (maybe I’m wrong on that) like an osu or some such.

Been giving osu!mania a good try over the past few weeks as an alternative to osu!, cos that shit makes my hands hurt. Maybe once I get to a certain level in mania it’ll be the same, but for now I’m enjoying it a lot. Even on 4 key mode (it can go up to 10 keys) the rhythms are so much more complex and interesting compared to the 1 key of osu!, and I’m only playing easy and normal levels for now (compared to ins*ne and expert on osu!). I love clacking my keyb, makes me feel like a cool performer. It does make me think about why I’m wasting time learning to play a useless rhythm game over a real instrument…

Giving Cult of the Lamb another go after not finishing it a while back. Last time I basically wasn’t enjoying the combat (pretty normal for me, I usually try to avoid combat in games if possible), so spent lots of time in the village until I got it pretty much fully upgraded and to the point where I wasn’t managing crises, but instead just chilling with my commune of cuties. This playthrough is pretty much going the same way, although I’m less terrible at the combat this time (probably because I played a bunch of Hades between now and then), so I’ve gotten a bit further than where I was last time. Right now I’m just beautifying my village after unlocking most of the decorations, but I think this might be my last thing I do with it. Maybe I’ll come back to it now and then and chip through the final couple of combat areas. Overall it’s very cute, the art is lovely. The cult parody is kinda skin deep, but I do think it works as a basic breakdown of some of the ways cults exploit people, and the cutesy and funny presentation, helps the hard-to-swallow-pill go down for some perhaps (excited to play Indika at some point for a hopefully more fleshed out take on the topic)

Also booting up Space Cadet Pinball every now and then after I found it neatly packaged up in my distro’s repos. Used to play it a lot as a kid and it’s interesting playing it again now. The sound design is fantastic tbh
