Why isn’t it so popular compared to mastodon? I just found out about it and it looks pretty mature imo, it’s only popular with japanese people.

Misskey/Calckey look really interesting. The main reason I haven’t (yet) switched over from Mastodon is the worse support from third-party apps.

Third party apps can change the interface/appearance of Mastodon, so what advantages do Misskey/Clackey have over Mastodon?

I think language was probably a major barrier in the earlier days of the project. That, and they also kind of took their own approach to implementing ActivityPub. To my knowledge, they still don’t really have any implementation of the Mastodon API, so client support is pretty limited compared to other fedi microblogging platforms.

I think it’s all the anime lmao, Calkey is basically rebranded misskey but I see english speakers go that way much more recently idk

Misskey is dope, but mastodon is simpler imo

mastodon is definitely simpler and more compatible. still, misskey is well-developed and more feature packed. it doesn’t get the love it deserves imo.

It just doesn’t seem very aimed at Westerners. There is a mature fork gaining prominence that is called Calckey… at least, for the next 5 days, until it rebrands. I suggest you check it out.
