I’ve been reading up on this FediPact stuff, and I’m curious: will the Divisions by zero instance be defederating Meta when they launch their new app that’s supposed to be Fediverse compatible? I checked the Anti-Meta FediPact list, but couldn’t find @db0 listed on there. I did read on a different post that the creator of the FediPact list has been blocking some people from signing it for whatever reason, so I’m not sure if that’s what happened here.

Yea probably. I agree with the fact that allowing meta in to run the 3Es is going to be a problem. Sorry but I’m busy with other subjects atm to follow up on this

Would be pretty dumb imo. They’ll bring a huge and potentially active userbase with them.

But I care more about content than principles for social media…

If you care to read it, this article explains very well the consequences of large companies getting in on defederated networks like the Fediverse. They’ve destroyed them before, and it’s clear that’s what Meta is attempting to do here.

But even then, I can’t understand why anyone would ever want content from the braindead idiots that largely populate Facebook, and Meta platforms in general. This place would be worse than reddit was at its lowest points if those people started flooding every instance and community here. If they genuinely want to be here and contribute meaningful content, they can just register on an instance like anyone else.

      I hope Db0 defederates them.

and this hghlights one of the great powers of federation. instances and users can make consequential choices. we see it hapening already with the beehaw/lemmyworld/shitjustworks drama.

honestly, I think people and the network will self organize and we will all end up with services that we don’t just tolerate, but actually enjoy using again.

        🤞

That’s the strength of the architecture really. Personally I hope dbzer0 flatly refuses any contact with a meta instance as this is my favourite implementation in the fediverse. As I see it we have nothing to gain by tolerating corpo presence, and everything to lose.

As @Nitrate55@lemmy.dbzer0.com said: I’m just not interested in what anyone who still has a facebook account wants from an online platform. If you can put up with that much predatory behaviour and degredation of what was ostensibly a platform to connect with eachother and still keep using it, you’re a net drain on any system.

I won’t be advertised to, I don’t want my data sold to the highest bidder and I’m not interested in having circular arguments with fools.

Thx for the reply and the article. Very interesting read. Never thought about it like that. Reading it like that, yeah, I agree it would be best to leave meta defederated from the rest :)

        I take back what I said :)

I have to agree 100% with you. Mainstream social media became a tool and expression of people’s frivolity and showing up their makeup happiness in their miserable lifes, and the first sign of such behaviour is a narcisistic one: “all is about me, everyone should look at me and everyone should agree with me”. And the last part is quite problematic, specially in Lemmy, where there are contents, opinions and point of views averse to the normie and cringe mindset of our modern society that force a fake positivity of values where paradoxically everyone can do and say whatever they want, but at the same time they should fit into a fluid notion of what right and wrong means.

It’s the other way around. They are having an essentially empty platform and nobody to bootstrap the communities. They want to use the Fediverse just for that and dump it again once they reached a certain size.

      Don’t play their game.
