How about don’t do this:
- Open search in YouTube (and other apps?)
- Use speech button to speak my search
- Release the button a little slow. Like a split fucking second longer than my speech.
- It erases everything I said and clears the search results.
Happens all the damn time. I can reproduce it on three people’s Apple TV with either kind of remote. How has no one in charge not experienced this?
If you want to reproduce it very easily, stop speaking and keep holding the button down for a couple seconds. You’ll get search results. Now release the button. Bam. Gone.
To best honest that sounds like a YouTube thing, as does it do it on any other app? If it done it on any other app with a similar feature maybe it would be Apple but if it’s just YouTube maybe Google didn’t integrate it correctly.
You might be right. I can’t reproduce it in the Apple TV+ app.
- Be able to turn off the swipe feature since most people who use the remote get mis-swipes when trying to click the big button
- Always play HDR correctly instead of messing up the color channels
For #2, this started after an OS update. It worked fine before. Now, HDR starts playing with messed up color channels (black looks magenta). If I shut off the AppleTV and turn it back on and resume playing, the channels are fine. Also, occasionally, it will just give static and make popping noises. I can’t find any setting that would fix this.
You can turn off swipe on the remote:
Go to Settings > Remote and Devices > Click Pad
Set it to “click only.”
Now you use the directional buttons, and the center is just a button. Use triple-clicks on arrows for some things, like closing apps.
I feel like the new update has fixed the swiping issue for me though. It feels like it has better “brakes”. Might just be my imagination though.
Awesome!
I want a system-level way to display what resolution, fps, etc. I’m currently streaming at. Finding it in the TV menu is clunky and I don’t keep that remote nearby.
I use HomePods for my TV audio, so I really need a wireless audio sync option that isn’t horrible. Let me check all the options I want to sync and calibrate them all done at once, rather than sifting through the list and finding every possible combination of resolution + frame rate I think I might ever need, and syncing them one at a time.
Upscaling features and picture adjustment on the Apple TV would be nicer than relying on my TV to do it, which seems to introduce lag and audio sync issues. I’m guessing an ATV with “Apple Intelligence” upscaling will launch someday.
Sorry that’s 3 things.
