They make such great trip sitters / spirit guides. When I did a bunch of psychedelics a voice told me we were going to the otherworld but if I got lost in there or something was scary I just needed to open my eyes and look for the cat (she’s very needy and always hangs out nearby when I’m home). Practically speaking I suppose that was my inner voice or wisdom or whatever guiding me through an intense neurochemical experience but it did work really well.

My cat likes to hide just at the edge of my line of sight and rattle things/knock stuff over. Probably not the best trip sitter.

One of mine gets super upset if she isn’t touching me. Unless she’s hungry, and then she tries to make me super upset. Lol. I guess the lesson in that is “make sure the cat is well fed before embarking on a journey”.

Every time I’ve ever tripped my cat(s) would come and lay on or beside me, purring louder than I’ve ever heard and staring into my eyes in a way they rarely had. It’s incredibly intimate (not sexually). Cats absolutely know when you’re tripping and they’re there for you.
