the big stickied thread is getting cluttered with lots of new people and the “how was your week” thread isn’t a great fit for introductions, so it seems about time to make this a dedicated thread of its own so peoples’ posts aren’t getting lost.

tell us a little bit about yourself, folks. don’t gotta be too specific or revealing, just whatever you want to put out there. this’ll be a good way of getting to know all the people you’re now on here with

I’m another reddit refugee, I’m in my 20s, I like watching movies and tv shows at double speed, I’m an expert in digital piracy and I’m hoping to make some friends here

I’m Hyperz and I come from the land of waffles, chocolate, fries and beer (Belgium). Was a reader of Reddit for about 15 years and a member for about 11 of those years. Before that I used to be very active on some niche forums until Reddit went Pac-Man on traditional forums. With the way Reddit was going the last few years, and especially now with the incoming API changes, I’ve decided I don’t want to support that anti-user platform anymore. I’m glad I found out about Lemmy (can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it before!) because not only does it look like a viable alternative to Reddit, it also brings back some of the aspects I’ve been missing from the old forum days.

Longtime redditor exploring new territory, to me at least. Digging that there is somewhere else to feddit and trying to get a feel for things here on Beehaw.

I like my coffee bold, black and pipping hot.

I’m Audrey, a long time Reddit user who signed up yesterday. I initially joined Reddit during the collapse of Digg, so, yeah, I’ve been there a while. I also dumped Twitter shortly after Elon Musk took over and switched to Mastodon; that was my first experience with the Fediverse. So far, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the people I have met on fedi, and I hope that continues here.

Anyway, I am a 35 year old trans woman who lives in the Pacific Northwest, and my interests include video games(both modern and retro), movies(particularly the so bad it good kind), sports(well, I used to care more than I do, I only follow Seattle teams now), books(sci-fi, fantasy, history), and tech(to a degree). I do stream on Twitch from time to time, and I’m planning on switching to Linux when I build my new computer soon.

I can also be found on Mastodon at @UngodlyAudrey@retro.pizza

    Nice to meet you all!

Hi, I’m a gozt (pronounced “ghost” if you care) and I’m a 30 year old dude who’s trying to learn how to code. Taking a course walking me through Javascript at the moment and I’m rather enjoying it even if some stuff takes some head-bashing to understand it. Not sure if I’ll be able to make a career out of it but I’m hoping for the best.

I have pretty broad taste in things, I like to believe there’s something in any genre or variety that I will love. I think the quality I appreciate the most is sincerity; if you’re into what you’re making, and you put your all into it, I will probably love it.

Aside from that, my hobbies are gaming and drawing. I don’t put as much time into drawing as I probably should but it is something I enjoy. And as for gaming, I play too much stuff and I’ve already gone on long enough.

Hi everyone! Just your friendly, vegan anti-natalist here and also someone who really looks forward to using something that simply can’t be owned by some corporation. Pronouns are they/them .

What are some of your biggest reasons for being antinatalist?

I’m a parent, but there’s a lot of merit to the arguments of antinatalism, and I’m curious to hear your reasoning for it. I struggled a lot with the moral implications of becoming a parent, and the book Debating Procreation: Is It Wrong to Reproduce? was a fascinating read for me.

Pregnancy eventually ‘happened’, and we decided to give our shot at the parenting thing and to do our best to give our child the best life they could have, and it’s been a challenging, yet fulfilling experience thus far for us.

I still agree with many of the arguments put forth by antinatlists, though.
