For Devo’s 40th anniversary album, Vice published a great article about them being the most misunderstood band of all time. Calling Devo a one-hit-wonder is a sign of ignorance shared with the majority of society. I probably would have thought the same before reading that article
Thanks for that article! I never really listened to Devo, going to rectify that.
Both chart-wise and enjoyment-wise Devo has more than one hit. Sure, Whip It is a much much bigger hit than anything else they ever did, but still they have other songs that charted, and they’ve got a ton of bangers
Check out the album Are We Not Men, it’s killer from start to finish

Oh dad, we’re all Devo.
One hit wonder? C’mon now… Devo had at least 2 hits. One just hit way harder than the rest.
Interesting fact: Gerald Casale went to Kent State in 1970. Devo’s “Devolution” philosophy was directly inspired by the Kent State shootings - opting for subversion instead of open protest.
My step-mom was in her room on campus. Said she didn’t know anything was going on.
That was an interesting fact!
I read this post to my autistic boyfriend and he just shared that he’s a total Devo nerd, so diagnosis checks out
The diagnosis came right after “Devo shirt” (amazing band)
‘Are we not men?’
