Great Gray is constantly underappreciated. The world’s longest owl deserves more respect!

One of my favs is the Long Eared and that one gets no respect either, even though it has some of the best stats on paper as far as things it has that everyone likes.

I donated the new Owl of the Year plaque from the animal rescue yesterday, so our donation in the community’s name has been made.

Oh wow, I missed the post about the plaque and the donation, that’s so cool of you. I should donate something to the animal shelter here, I think I have some mail about that around here…

I didn’t post about it yet since no one is here. I’ll probably do it in the year end recap.

You totally should support your local place! It’s a crime none of these places gets a single cent of public support. They do really great work, and even if it’s not a place you can visit their actual facility due to regulations, most places usually have an annual open house or they do public events. It’s a really positive thing you can do for the health of your local animals and protects the biodiversity of your community.

I try to avoid directly talking about money, as I know everyone is in a different financial position and I don’t want to seem pushy or making people feel guilty for not donating, but it’s crucial to protecting the animals in your own neighborhoods.

Yeah I think one of the great things about the “animal” communities on Lemmy is that they humanize animals, and make people realize how much our local environment is enriched by them. Even if you’re in a city there are all kinds of birds and small mammals that people take for granted.

Very true. We need to think of them as a meaningful part of our world if we’re to do anything good for them.
