Only I can know my motivations, just like only you can know yours. We never needed to go down this path of fighting each other like toddlers over a cookie jar. We could’ve had a normal, healthy discussion about AI had you only decided to take my words at face value or accepted that I only ever wanted to talk. Whether I was/ am being honest about my intentions is completely irrelevant, this is the internet and you can say whatever you choose, even if someone is lying when they ask. Yet you persist with these unproductive accusations and now here we are
Sure. For the I don’t know how manyth time, my argument was: “be wary of AI.” And when I gave one of the reasons, because of the environmental mess it is causing, you dismissed it.
You haven’t accepted that was my argument multiple times already, let’s see if you do this time. I doubt it.
As I said before, “be wary of AI” isn’t much of argument as it’s not something we ever disagreed upon. I have never once said anything to the effect of; “AI is harmless and perfect and we should all use it willy-nilly without a care in the world”. In fact I’ve been trying to say the precise opposite this whole fucking time. If your only point was to be cautious of AI, then why the actual fuck are we fighting?
Where I think we actually disagreed was in how to deal with AI and what ‘wary’ actually mean in this case. From everything I’d seen you appeared to support the burry your head in the sand and hope AI disappears approach, while I argued that we should all spend some time getting to understand the nuances of AI so that we can more easily recognize when its being misused. When I questioned you having an argument, I was openly inviting you to expand on your point and tell me what “being wary” meant to you and why that was important. I was attacking your argument as it seemed weak and I simply wanted to know more, I was not attacking you or your character (I apologize if it seemed otherwise).
As for the environmental thing, I have, on multiple occasions, said exactly why I dismissed it and also explicitly invited you to bring it back into your argument as long as you did it without presuming to know what my take is before we even started discussing anything:
