Hey all!

What type of PC content are you guys interested in seeing in here? Are you subscribed to other gaming communities?

I’ve been trying to help out the creator and post a mix of content, but am never really sure what people use it for. Here’s a bit of what I’ve been trying:

  • General PC games news
  • hardware news & reviews
  • Smaller/Lesser known game releases and reviews
  • Industry news
  • Trailers
  • Bigger game updates

I skim through a ton of material every day and post a few highlights from the sources I think are most informative (so not always the original source).

    I know what I don’t want, and that’s general gaming news. If it’s not specific to PC gaming somehow, then it shouldn’t be here, or else it’s just going to be duplicating /gaming.

    The rules, seemingly a carbon copy of the ones from Reddit, state to “use primary sources,” but I think there is a tendency for this to cause undue emphasis to be placed on “authoritative articles” from big online magazines for the sake of posting news. Those links usually have grandiose/clickbaity titles and are often thinly-veiled advertisements or PR hype campaigns in advance of a game’s release (not on the part of the poster, but on the part of the web magazine).

    It seems like the posts with the most engagement on a pure post count number tend to be actual questions or comments from users, such as someone waxing about a game they really like, or some kind of meta conversation.

    Obviously you want to disincentivize low-effort posts like “My keyboard broke–how do I fix it?” but some middle ground would be good here, so that enthusiasts can actually discuss the nitty-gritty of games with each other, rather than the magazine turning into a silent news aggregator.

      Great observation! Sadly, I’m not sure I can do much to encourage people to ask questions. I do upvote them whenever they happen, though. I’ve tried the weekly, what are you playing thread to just get folks involved and commenting, which seems to do ok. I worry that without news making the space visible on a regular basis, people won’t think to post here at all. Open to suggestions if you have any ideas on how to spur that.

      When it comes to posts, I try to find the most informative and least click-baity. I suspect, just like on reddit, most people skim headlines and move on. I will try to link to the original sources, store pages, or other information in the posts when available. That sadly tends to be the larger magazines/sites.

    personally? pc specific info

    not hardware news so much, although i do think it’s on-topic; but

    • pc port reports
    • modding news and info
    • technical support
    • pc exclusive releases
      • including mainly maybe indie games? although that’s not super on-topic
    • other pc specific news (i.e. news about steam, epic, itch, etc.)

    i don’t really care about big name releases - if i wanted that there’s always !games@lemmy.world and !games@sh.itjust.works, although i think they get enough publicity anyways

    but i haven’t actually posted anything here so my opinion’s not that important
