So I’m on my first re-read of the books right now and I’ve just finished A Game of Thrones. One thing that really sticks out to me now that I’m significantly more aware of what’s going on is the relative ease at which Walder was able to get someone from a great house to accept terms on a marriage pact.

I understand the need to get across the river, and I get that time was not on their side, but it all seems a bit…I don’t know, foolish in hindsight.

The same could be said for Edmure. Crossing The Twins was obviously incredibly important, but was it so important that you’d so eagerly hand over a marriage to two of their most eligible men in the kingdom?
