I agree that a focus on great individual comments seems better than a focus on great threads. I thought the 'best of ’ subreddit had a good approach. I really enjoyed reading well thought out comments that really got the to core of the topic at hand.

And in general I assume this community will simply grow organically as size scales up over time and people see nice examples of posts in this magazine.
