I created a VERY cheap and cheerful server in the early days (unraid 5.x) just so I could get two USB external drives out from under my TV in the lounge, and it slowly grew from there.
I turning my gaming PC into a unraid server. Dropped windows completely. Running 6x 8TB for now + a 1080ti for hardware transcoding when required. Used mostly as a media server but I do tinker in other things.
