@thegiddystitcher @lemmy_stitch I really like the tree and I’m hoarding it for later, but I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that it was AI generated (the image, not the pattern). I had the same thoughts about the owl from the previous freebies. I know a lot of work is involved in making a pattern so that sparks an inner conflict.

I don’t really have a problem with it being AI since they’re giving it away for free, and they’re being upfront that it’s an AI design.

@MrJameGumb that’s why I’m conflicted. Converting that image to a proper pattern takes work. I can’t say how good it is. They’re upfront and I didn’t see any AI images in their catalogue for sale. My issue with this is that Midjourney allegedly is trained by using copyrighted images without the creators’ consent. There wasn’t any creativity involved when generating the image other than the prompt. On the other hand it’s (hopefully) not used for profit so I hope you see where I’m coming from.

I agree with you there, I’m definitely not paying someone for an AI image they spent 2 minutes on lol! As a survivor of art school I don’t love that the AI engines steal artwork, but I don’t mind so much if it’s just for something fun that’s free
