A 21-year-old Cornell University junior was charged Tuesday for making online threats to Jewish students at the Ivy League school, authorities said.

Patrick Dai, a junior at Cornell, faces a charge of posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications, federal prosecutors in the Northern District of New York said.

In a post in an online discussion board, prosecutors said, the student allegedly threatened to “shoot up” a campus building. In another post, he said he he would “stab” or “slit the throat” of Jewish men, and rape or throw off a cliff Jewish women he encounters on campus, according to the prosecutors.

He also said he would behead Jewish babies and threatened to “bring an assault rifle to campus and shoot all you” Jewish people, prosecutors said, attributing the words to Dai.

I don’t care what sort of evil you think you’re fighting, as soon as you threaten rape, you’re the bad guy. Threatening murder is also awful but like at least there is the concept of killing in self defence. There is no rape in self defence–it is a completely evil act.

In case anyone needs help with this concept.

The entire situation is a dumpster fire. Hamas resorting to random acts of violence instead of a targeted attack dooms their cause. Giving in to terrorism sends the message that it is an effective strategy, encouraging more of it. Israel’s reaction is almost as bad. Everyone is being punished for the actions of a few. The antisemitism from people like this hurts the Palestinian cause too.

        dooms their cause.

Hamas is not Fatah. Hamas has one cause - staying in power. And Israeli retribution is exactly how they plan on staying in power.

Hamas has always been a terrorist organisation, they’ve never had a legitimate wing. They use religion as an excuse for being a vicious murderer.

They are no better then ISIS

Israel’s reaction is almost as bad.

Pretty sure bombing refugee camps and humanitarian corridors are objectively worse, as are cutting off all food/water/power/aid to the open air prison they’ve been running for decades is worse than what hamas’ is doing.

Obligatory not supporting attacking civilians, but Hamas can’t do much except random acts of violence. They’re probably one of the worst armed militant groups in the past 100 years.

What a dumb-ass. And why would you throw your life away making threats to people who didn’t do anything to you? Just because you’re emotional about something that’s happening on the other side of the planet?

Yeah and he’s not Palestinian or something where he might have hatred due to strong personal ties, he’s an American dude going to an Ivy League school. It would be really interesting to see the garbage he’s been consuming on Facebook or elsewhere lately

The scumbags go looking for the stuff. They live crap lives and they’re depressed, and they want to blame someone so they pick someone who is completely blameless but can’t fight back.

Then they come up with some justification. If this war wasn’t happening he would have found someone else, probably falling back to islamophobia which is always a good one for a bit of mindless undirected aggression.

“Dai admitted, after receiving Miranda warnings, that he was the person who used the internet to post the threatening messages described above,” the complaint, citing an interview of the suspect by the FBI earlier in the day, said.

Investigators said they traced threatening communication to the suspect’s Internet Protocol or IP address, a number unique to a device or network connected to the internet.

So much for an Ivy League education. Not only is he a racist and aggressive tool, he’s also an idiot.

Tracing someone’s IP address isn’t like tracing a phone number it doesn’t definitely give you the person. They just told him they traced the IP address, and because he’s a brainless muppet he confessed, thinking they actually had something on him. Tracing the IP address is circumstantial evidence at best.

As long as Israel continues claiming its genocide is in the name of every Jewish person around the world, despite a plurality of Jewish people standing up to this narrative and condemning Zionism, people are going to be driven into Antisemitism.

The exact same tactic was used by Daesh to drive people to islamophobia – The more afraid your target audience is, the more likely they’re going to support your fascist solutions.

At some point all this rancor will provoke some individual or a small self-starting group to carry out an act of lethal, armed terrorism in solidarity with Hamas, ffs. Which will, in turn, evaporate any sympathy Palestinians have in the US. It will also open the door for white supremists to start making rules that will oppress Arab Americans.

If you don’t support Palestinians, you are only proving you are either a stupid bigot or a stupid moron incapable of nuance and undeserving of an opinion.

I disagree with the “average Palestinian supporter” statement also, but unfortunately there’s a very loud contingent of people who are “supporting Palestinians” by attacking Jews worldwide. They seem to think that a Jewish person living in New York is 100% responsible for what’s going on between Israel and Gaza merely by the fact that they are Jewish.

I’ve seen people openly declare that Jewish temples, businesses, and homes are valid targets. I’ve seen people celebrate Jewish deaths or rip down posters of the people who were taken hostage.

Sadly, these people hurt the very cause they claim to support by linking it with this hatred. (For the record, I’m Jewish and want the Palestinians to have a better life.)

If someone’s support for Innocent Group A is expressed by attacking Innocent Group B, then they aren’t on the right side (even if supporting Innocent Group A is a just cause).

I feel like almost every single one of those people (the ‘loud contingent’ you mention) were already antisemitic assholes, and this is just an excuse to be louder about it. Besides hitching themselves to the ‘free Palestine’ voices, they have nothing else in common with the true supporters of Palestinian human rights and can fuck right off

In his defense, we’re told by our leaders who to support, I’d bet 90+% of us don’t know Jack shit of what’s going on over there. Cnn/fox news said so and so is the bad guy so that’s the bad guy.
