ChatGPT is telling me to go to Antarctica. Not sure about the cost of living there. And besides, I don’t think their food game all that.

Seriously though, where have you spent a considerable amount of time and seen no roaches (the American and German types)?

Lol, never come to Mayalsia. I have been to Penang and Kuala Lumpur. It’s one of the worst places I have been too for roaches. Literally, in the most expensive hotels and Airbnb you will find American roaches and European ones. Look at under 4 star review or even 4.5 star Google reviews and people are taking pictures of cockroaches in food. Thailand is actually better than Mayalsia for cockroaches.

UK is amazing for cockroaches hardly any once outside of London. Even in London it’s hard to find. Bahrain used to be good as well, but due to the economic downturn a lot of the empty flats there are gaining roaches. But overall the gulf states have really good food hygiene so you won’t find many restaurants with a roach problem.

Japan and Korea are good as well for roaches not as much there.

Colombia is súper cheap and while you will see them in the streets Ive never seen a roach in my apartment living for over a year in MedellÍn. I dont think They like the altitude and cooler temps as much as super hot and humid like the caribbean or SEA.

It can be Thailand. Just chose accommodations without roaches. When I was there I don’t remember seeing any or maybe I was not paying attention because they don’t bother me. I’m sure if I were paying attention I’d see them.

Japan is a no go. It would be tough to find a rental with no roaches. I saw them in each of my apartments. Since I had my house built though, I’ve been spared the terror. Most hotels would be fine too.

I live in Aomori (since 2018) and I really haven’t seem that many bugs. I’m from Alaska for reference so my tolerance for creepy crawlies is extremely low.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering about the situation up north. I live in Ise and we’ve got big ones.
Aren’t the mosquitoes in Alaska terrible in the summer? Can’t remember where I read that.

I get a pest spray for my small house, costs 1500 for 6 months. Rarely do i find a roach, and if i do its dead already.

Clean your apartment, don’t leave food around and you won’t see many roaches.

I’ve lived in Asia for years and I rarely saw roaches

The problem isn’t your apartment, it’s everyone elses’ that live around you. I first saw roaches when I moved to Korea, my apartment was spotless, my neighbors’ not so much. I would open drawers in my desk and they would be crawling around. No food anywhere to be seen. Didn’t matter. At least they were small. Now I deal with 4 inch long behemoths in a warm climate at least once every few months. I swear you can hear them breathing.

Yes indeed if you live in a big condo, your apartment can have roaches, even if it’s clean, if other tenants keep theirs dirty. It happened to me in Gramercy Residence in Manila for example, the receptionist told me they routinely spray the entire building but if people keep their apartments dirty, roaches and other insects eventually return.

So, in big condos, especially if not new, you can find roaches even if you’re clean. But despite this, I rarely found them…maybe I got lucky.

If somebody is very scared by roaches, he/she can spray the perimeter of his apartment with an anti-roaches spray so they don’t get scared

It is your apartment. While you can’t keep tiny ants out, anything bigger can be sealed/screened out. You have to take the time to find every little orifice and fill it.

If you have no window screens, no weather seals, and no concept of building standards, you have your work cut out for you.

But you can purge roaches and keep them out, if you so desire, even if your neighbors consider them part of the stir-fry on the stovetop.

yeah people from west really underestimate the level of ocd it takes to avoid them. i’m from a cold climate and you can leave the trash out, do dishes later that day or even tomorrow, store food in cupboards etc and you won’t get roaches, you won’t even really get ants.

in thailand no way, you can’t leave like one tiny ass crumb left on the floor or ants will come and after that roaches, everything goes in the fridge, trash gets taken out right away, dishes done after every meal, you have to be super ocd about it to avoid them

I’ve been having problems with German roaches every night for months until I realised they crawled up from the drains, so taped them all and no roaches since.

roaches are normal. It doesn’t matter how wealthy, if the climate is roach friendly then they will get in. Why don’t you try to relax a bit?

Hey you know, you can actually take simple steps to keep roaches out of your home, even in tropical climates. I mean yeah you will still occasionally see the odd one no matter how careful you are, but since I got all my measures in place I very rarely see one. I have a pretty bad phobia of them too.

Clean up after yourself when handling food and roaches have no reason to show up. Easy.
