I hope rants are allowed on r/apple… didn’t see anything about it in the rules.

My iOS keyboard has new behavior since a few days ago. I have most of the QOL features turned off because I sometimes mix different languages, use abbreviations and sometimes need to communicate scientific names/concepts that aren’t saved in dictionaries. I do like the “predictive” option because it saves me from typing commonly used words. Apparently there is now an auto-fill feature that is grouped with the predictive keyboard option. So, if I type “Backe” (german for cheek) but iOS thinks the most likely word I am writing is “backed” it will automatically add a “d” when I hit space.

I

HATE

THIS

Please for the love of god put all the auto-correct / auto-format / auto-fill / auto-bulls*** options separately from the other QOL options. Predictive text options IS NOT the same as typing things automatically for me. It should never be combined.

Anybody else experiencing this frustration? Does anybody have a workaround? I have never really experimented with custom keyboards before but maybe I should.

This feature is the only thing i hate about the keyboard on iOS compared to Android. Its also driving me insane how many times i have to go back and fourth to edit a sentence and sometimes delete a message entirely i sendt

Strangely, after using iphones since the very first, there are spelling corrections coming up constantly that are incorrect. For example, while typing the word corrections, it popped up with corrextions. This is not ok.

Is there a way to replace Apple’s dictionary check with a third party? I’m not talking about Grammarly which I have (I don’t like the Grammarly ios keyboard).

Even when it’s not autocorrecting, the suggested words at teh top are regularly really bad. Plus this keyboard lags real bad if you type fast. Switched to Gboard the other day and it’s a massive improvement in performance

I honestly think everything about the new keyboard/iMessage is abysmal.

Having AutoFill right next to paste means accidentally clicking into my contacts three times a day, there’s two dictation buttons if you have that on, and the new app tray is so unbelievable cumbersome (and takes up the entire screen).

No idea what they were thinking this update. I feel like I used to be able to type like a wizard a few updates ago and for the last few months I’ve been struggling to adapt.

like swiftkey but is there a way to get it to show emoji when I type a word? That is one thing I use all the time in ios keyboard. So if I type “lol” the laughing emoji will show up in the suggestions at top. Or if I type “Omg” or “sad” or “cry” etc

Autocorrect and its related features have always sucked and continue to suck even more - particularly for people using more than one language. I fail to believe there aren’t enough multilingual people at Apple to recognise this. I use three languages everyday, English, German, Dutch. The overlap between all three creates huge issues. I don’t need machine learning to identify objects in my photos anywhere near as much as I just need my phone to correctly identify the language I’m using at any moment. This shouldn’t be hard, it’s highly contextualised.

One of the many iOS “features” that clearly show Apple either doesn’t know or care that other countries and languages exist.

Multilingual spellcheck is so fucking terrible on iOS’s stock keyboard.

Like, literally, 10 years behind what Android had. Such a shame 3rd-party keyboards are pretty handicapped.
