How do you guys charge your iPhone? Do you charge it to 100% or 80% Optimized charging?
Asking this because I am opting out of Apple Care+ and planning on keeping this for 3-4 years.
I have a 15 Pro Max and I charge it to 80%, but I need to charge it at least twice a day because it drains so fast and I charge it when it touches 20%. Anyone else having battery draining issue? Sometimes I just use Instagram for 15 minutes and it’s already down ~10%.
Im charging to 80% limit, every day and a half.
Woah man! How much Do you use your phone?
I’ve seen mixed success from ‘slow charging’, think old brick, not the usb-c ones, since that puts less wear and tear on the battery from using less current and also using the optimized schedule that it automatically generates, but your mileage may vary
Charge when needed. Just don’t be plugging and unplugging 100% the time. Like you’re not going anywhere for long periods of time and you’re at 95% you don’t need to be plugged in constantly.
I would suggest the following:
- You already follow the 20%-80% rule :) Perfecto!
- Review your Background Apps setting (I recommend disable all and only enable one’s that are needed!)
- Review your battery usage in the settings to find out what is draining your battery as it doesn’t seem normal imo. ’ I just use Instagram for 15 minutes and it’s already down ~10%.’
- Use a slow charger when possible to reduce the temperature of the battery when charging!
- Keep your screen’s brightness as low as possible will help but is a bit overkill. just don’t use max brightness all the time lol
I know some of these are over the top but they will help over time!
Safe travels to your next destination :)
EDIT: Here’s a short video which runs through settings which can help with prolonging an iPhone’s battery life :)
Thanks a lot for the tips man! I really appreciate it. Will give it a try❤️
No worries man!
I use the 80% limit on my 15Plus and it works fine, rarely it goes under 20% at the end of the day. You should look, in the Battery section in Serttings, which Apps are draining your battery so fast. Disabling background refresh in less important Apps, may work.
This seems like a Controversial topic , as for me ill just say that a good charger and a good cable goes a long way, and cables that reduce current when your phone is almost 100% also helps to reduce heat . for me i use anker’s 30w charger. I used the same charger for my 14pm which had 93% battery health after 1year. But may also vary from user to user. as i dont really game on my phone so im only using apps like whatsapp , instagram etc.
You guys worry to much about battery life charge your phone whenever you want life to short to worry about it
I’m a battery/efficiency hobbyist - if you do it right with an automated custom charge optimization (smartplug + shortcut, or chargie usb dongle), there’s no effort/cost/hassle after initial set-up, and batts should last longer than Apple will support the OS. The built-in ‘optimizations’ are ok, but too dumbed-down to capture the best lowing hanging fruit (eg, idling/resting overnight at low SoC). However, the 80% limiter combined with a dumb light timer, or a morning charge routine, recaptures most of that.
My XR seems to be doing fine after 4yrs and I still use my 11/12yo iPhone5/iPad2 (w/ 5-6 SOT on original batts).
I always charge to 100% using optimized battery charging (the iPhone learns your daily schedule to wait just before you normally pick up your phone before charging from 80% to 100%). Also, the battery drain sucks on new phones since about 2020. Apple is aware of the issue and there is very little we can do about it. All the best.
I use optimized charging too but it lasts me the whole day. It isn’t worth it if you have to recharge.
Charge your phone to 100% when you have time, and definitely fully charge it at night. Why would you pay $1,000+ for a phone, and not get the full potential of your battery life? All this charging to 80% is a load of shit.
