I got a new iPhone so my wife took my iPhone 11 to use as her own. Even though her Rav4 has wired CarPlay, she prefers just using Toyota’s built-in system through BlueTooth as she still listens to local radio.
The iPhone 11 is paired to the Rav4 BT and will play music from the phone through the car speakers via BT.
But phone calls will ONLY play through her iPhone speaker. The car shows her phone is connected. Her iPhone shows her phone is connected, and her iPhone speaker icon says that the output is through BT to the car. But nothing is coming through the car speakers (and yes, we’ve turned the volume all the way up.)
I have unpaired and paired it again. I have rebooted the phone. I have rebooted her Rav4 system.
I’ve Google’d the issue and can’t find a lot of examples of this specific issue, so I’m stumped. Any constructive advice welcomed, as this all worked perfectly with her old iPhone XR.
Does it work correctly with your iPhone?
Nope. Which kinda makes me feel better.
Something of a long shot but: While connected to her car, does Settings–>Accessibility–>Touch–>Call Audio Routing show anything useful?
It’s set to Automatic, which is how it was set on her XR.
Update: It does not work correctly with my new iPhone 15 Pro Max either, which weirdly makes me feel better. Mine reacts exactly the same way - fully paired to the Rav4 Bluetooth, and incoming calls are shows as routing through BT but don’t come through the car’s speakers/microphone.
Exact same thing through wired CarPlay works just fine.
My wife’s XR was on iOS17, so I’m reluctant to blame iOS 17 for somehow borking BT in her vehicle, but it’s weird that one day her XR works just fine and the next day my 11, wiped and set up with her Apple stuff synced from her phone, won’t work, and that my new phone also won’t work as its supposed to.
So I give up.
