Saw the movie today. Went in completely blind, not even realizing it was a two parter. The animation style is stunningly gorgeous and unique. Just by aesthetics alone, it was a complete joy to watch. The use of colour was fantastic, including being a perhaps subtle hint that Miles wasn’t in his own universe.
The plot was fantastic. Full of the usual Spider-man quips that make his movies fun, yet also extremely touching (Gwen’s moments with her dad in particular). I wasn’t sure how they’d top the team of Spider-people from the first movie, but somehow they did it (with a whole freaking tower full of Spider-people).
The music was also fantastic. I’m gonna lookup a playlist for work tomorrow because there was a lot of bangers that were unfamiliar to me.
My only complaint is the lack of closure due to the “to be continued” ending. The chemistry between Miles and Gwen is great and has me excited for the sequel.
Honourable mention to the daughter of Peter B – she’s adorable.
Somehow, they managed to top the first one. And it’s the first time a cliffhanger felt appropriate. I get the feeling they couldn’t tell the story/do the art to the level they wanted to if they kept it to one movie.
Basically, rather than being a cliffhanger to sell a new movie, I think they probably made the decision the story and movie would be better split so they can really do justice to both parts.
I’m ngl, me and my friends were ready to sit there for another hour when the TBC hit. It was so good!

It’s insane how the time just flew by and the art was amazing, loved it.The cliffhanger… felt appropriate in a way, but I honestly found myself waiting for it to happen for a while. The movie made it feel like it was coming way before it actually did, so after every scene toward the end I found myself wondering, “ok is it over now? no? are they actually going to finish the story and this movie is going to be longer than usual? if so I’d be ok with that but I really hope they don’t end it here…” A little on the annoying side. It felt like they wouldn’t have had much farther to go to finish telling the story, but what do I know.
I dont want to downtalk the movie to folks who have not yet seen it. But a thing I really disliked about it, which I’m feeling is becoming a trend to try to build bigger franchises, was that it ends with a cliffhanger without resolving 80% of the plotlines opened up.
It is one of the, if not the best movie of this year so far. But don’t expect to get a complete story.
The fact they resolved some of Gwen’s story made this slightly more unusual in the evreything must hang stakes
I actually did my graduation project on the first movie a few years back. It might be my all time favourite movie. To say that this one managed to live up to that expectation is really commendable. I think going for a different tone was a very smart choice and made it feel really fresh. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the integration of live-action but it wasn’t something that bothers me that much.
Simply can’t wait to see this flick. I still contend Into the Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Man movie ever made.
It dethrones it
This movie was an interesting feeling for me. I loved every second of it, especially the visuals. Miles escaping the spider society was incredible. The fight with Spot at the begging was hilarious.
But I had two pieces of “commentary” on the film.
The first: they positioned Miles as this outside to the spider-verse for wanting to save his dad, but Holland’s Peter (connected by both Glover and Miguel’s mention of earth 199999) also ignored multiverse rules with how he dealt with the villains in No Way Home. All the live action spider men actually participated in that, so why is it a problem for Miles?
The second is the pacing: really wish I had known it was a part 1. The entire movie felt like an intro, not in a bad way, but in a “how the hell are they going to wrap all of this up?!” As the movie was going on. The theater I was in audibly groaned when to be continued popped up on the screen.
Agree with the second there.did some some small bits of filler, during it I felt like “no wonder this is two hours if they labour some of these scenes” before I realised it is more like a 4hour film
Well, the rules for the multiverse between the Spiderverse movies and the MCU seem to differ despite being the same, this is a plot hole to be solved, on the MCU we have people from alternative universes staying long-term with no damage to it all, in the Spiderverse they have “canon” which threatens it all, there was no such thing on the MCU.

Kind of… there’s incursions, which the Illuminati from Multiverse of Madness warned Strange about and captured him to avoid. The only one that wasn’t really causing problems hoping multiverses was America - who has powers specifically related to it and was described as a nexus being IIRC.
I wonder if you’d describe Miguel’s situation where he replaced the dead version of himself and the universe collapsed an incursion? If so, I think it lines up.
My thoughts were way more about how Miles is imprisoned for wanting to save his dad and prevent a canon event, while MCU Peter was an off-the-cuff mention of something Miguel had to clean up when he clearly prevented multiple canon events for the other live action Spidermen.
For the first one wasn’t Miguel:s comment you mention hating on Holland, so is a problem. (Maybe strange reverted the issues or maybe Miguel isn’t a reliable narrator)
It was a 9/10 for me. It was well on its way to a 10/10 (which to me means a movie is perfect, within its genre), based on the stunning visuals, amazing worldbuilding and character chemistry, geniunely good humor, exciting action, and stunning moments; but I ended up liking the first one better, as I feel this one is 10-15 minutes too long, and has some pacing and narrative contruction issues. It’s not a major complain, and I’ve already seen it twice and loved it every time, but it bumped it from “perfect movie” to “excellent movie”, to me.
My 12 year old saw the first one a few years back in class (I wish my teachers were this cool. I only watch countless hours of Mr. Bean) and he absolutely loved it. I never got around to watch it until a few days ago.
The story line was solid and the movie was quite good. I watch a lot of sci-fi, so the whole parallel universe/multiverse concept wasn’t news to me. But the to Marvel crowd, this was something new (I think, correct me if I’m wrong) and seeing this with a bunch of Spider-persons was truly refreshing.
I can’t wait to bring my kids to the Across the Spiderverse next weekend.
The animation style being copied by the Puss in Boots film was actually quite refreshing. puss is actually an ok film in parts, conflict with big bad wolf is great…Horner less so
I’d say puss in boots surpasses “ok”, I really loved it. It was very heartfelt and they did a great job of making all the characters interesting and entertaining. Yes, even Horner. It’s quite refreshing to see an “evil just for the sake of evil” villain once in a while.
I’m not normally someone who pays a whole lot of attention to cinematography in movies (crucify me if you must), but… wow. My jaw literally dropped at certain scenes, and I just couldn’t stop thinking about how fucking stunning it was.
Same as you I went in completely blind. They top the first one on everything except the ending. I had no idea it was a two parter and was obviously disappointed with how they end the movie.
Loved the movie. The animation style was amazing. Loved the chemistry between Miles and Gwen, and … sniff … came out of the movie wishing I had a Gwen of my own. I know she’s a teenager, but why do I feel like they wrote her as just enough of an adult to be attractive? I hesitate to admit it, but I’ve always been a sucker for the whole “puppy love” dynamic. I just think it’s the most amazing feeling and I don’t get enough of it IRL so I have to experience it vicariously through fictional characters. Definitely a weakness of mine.
And the level of detail everywhere!! I feel like the more I read about the movie the more details I see get revealed. Shout-out to strawhatgoofy for pointing out the details about the music when Miles meets the Prowler at the end
Absolutely loved this one, didn’t expect it to be as good as the first let alone better! Only knock if I had to nitpick is it being a cliffhanger with loose ends all over the place.
I don’t mind as I’ll likely binge all 3 together once they’re all out but in 5 years, will this movie stand on its own?
All of the excitement in these posts make me really excited to watch it. Hopefully soon
Okay, I gotta ask. How flashy is it? Is it like the first one? Unfortunately, I had to leave that movie (photosensitivity epilepsy) even though it was amazing. The one trailer I’ve seen makes me think this one also isn’t for me.
Sorry to say, but it’s flashier
The very initial production credits intro alone would be hard on someone with epilepsy. The movie, as amazing as it was, was very similar to the first with fast-paced, quick-cut action sequences. If there’s a way to watch it, maybe at home in a daylit room, I still very much recommend it.
