I’m currently reading The Duke and I and the author is constantly using the word “acerbic”. I had never heard of the word before now and had to google the definition. The word has shown up so much that I’m tempted to go through the book and count its appearances lol.
Have you noticed any authors having favorite words that they use page after page?
Sarah J Maas is notorious for doing this with lots of words or phrases. My least favorite and what I noticed the most is “balk”. Such an ugly looking and sounding word.
“Mate”
“Vulgar gesture”
Also yes. Everyone making vulgar gestures and sticking out their tongues as normal reactions for beings that are centuries old???
I love ACOTAR, but Feyre spends all her time “tucking” every item! She tucks knives away all the time!
Don’t get me started on Mirth or tongue clicking…
For me the most annoying one is “bobbing his throat”. Why are we constantly noticing handsome men ‘bobbing’ their throats?? Though I have to admit calloused hands turning into claws or talons are a close second.
How do you bob your throat? I’ve heard of bobbing your head but does throat just mean moving a man’s Adam’s apple?
That’s my guess as well
Removing invisible lint.
I could have done without a lot of the references to watery bowels.
“Down, down, down.”
